The hatred of the English media is astounding and annoying.

Giroud was dragged and kicked; clear foul hence a penalty.

There was a game when an attacker stopped suddenly in front of Eboue who consequently bumped into the guy. The daft English media concluded quickly that it was a penalty and most of our fans agree with them.

Why so serieuse?
The ref clearly read the changed rules before the match. So if dissent, then straight yellow. Tug in shirt resulted in an immediate foul. You can see when Girouds shirt snaps back from where Fonte was holding on to it in the replays. On a related note, our form fitting jerseys were finally of some use

It was a penalty, fans are stunned that we actually got it. It how it has been for years now, we have been denied stone wall penalties for so long we just arent used to proper refereeing. Giroud was pulled down inside the box which is a fact and Giroud doesnt usually go down easy. Giroud was clearly being pushed one way and than dragged to the ground.

They really are, it's so obvious now when somebody is holding on to an Arsenal player!

Doesn't appreciate the mighty Nacho
I assumed it is a foul to pull an opponent's shirt and prevent him getting to the ball
Football's a contact sport and they were tussling in the box, not to mention Fonte actually gets a foot on the ball. I can see why it was given but it's very, very soft.

I'll start disliking the new rules more when we start getting penalties against us for fouls like that. Luckily we have been a clean team for a while, these rules should be an improvement for us.

Win is a win but it's pretty clear that with that sort of performances we will drop a lot of points. We looked very shaky every time Soton had the energy to press high up. There will be opponents who can do that all night. Theo and Ox should not be played at the same time and while Coq is defensively very good, he is very inconsistent with the ball. Early days still but so far not that convincing. Then again, being able to win when not playing to our standards is a good sign

Definite penalty under the new rules, if it continues like this then Giroud will win us a lot this season.
