Nwaneri wants to Play as 10/8 or even a false 9. He will play on wings if manager asks him but his heart is set to play centrally.

“You can see sometimes I’m a natural midfielder,” says Nwaneri. “But I think if the manager wants you to play in a position, you have to do it to the best of your abilities. I don’t mind playing there because anywhere for the Arsenal first team I’ll be happy playing, and trying to do a good job for the team. I’ve played false nine before a few times, actually. I think I can do a role anywhere that the manager needs me.
“I want to play forward. I want to be a positive player, one who affects the game, who can control the game, who scores goals. I think that’s just my game. There’s loads of stuff that I can add to my game. I think defence, (playing) inside, my physical capacity, there’s loads of stuff that I can get to work on in my game. That’s what I’m going to get to work on after we’ve hopefully won the tournament and joined pre-season.”

Find the Nwaneri discourse at the moment to be a bit jarring. He's gonna stay IMO, not terribly worried going into next season. In fact, he's one player I'm eager to see over preseason. He's a smart kid, he knows his weaknesses.

How could you say that after seeing how much we are willing to pay for Madueke? If we do sign Madueke that's Nwaneri's playing time on the right gone. And Eze is likely to compete with him in the middle, something that will be worse when Dowman breaks through. So I am not sure where Nwaneri is supposed to play, the new signings are Arteta's way of saying he thinks Nwaneri needs to go back to the U21s.

Important this gets done, I want the academy to be highlighted for bringing through players that go onto have careers with us. It shows a pathway to other players and prospective young talent also.

Zubimendi looks an important signing but Gabriel renewing also MLS and now hopefully Nwaneri committing to us for the next seasons are the best bits of business so far this summer.

He shouldn’t be too worried as he’s mostly competing with a bunch of bums. When Foden was 18 years old he had David Silva, KDB, Bernardo Silva, Sterling, Mahrez and Sane to compete with for a place in the starting 11. Who is Nwaneri up against that would get a mention alongside that lot from peak City in 18/19? Saka is the only one that comes to mind. He should back himself to break into the team.

Yeah not happening for a while that. Ødegaard is gonna be on a different level this season compared to last, but hopefully Ethan will deputize and keep him fresh which was an obvious issue last season.

What makes you believe that? Hopefully you're not wrong.

Arsenal Quotes

I believe one of the best things about managing people is that we can influence lives in a positive way. That’s basically what a manager is about. When I can do that, I am very happy.
