Ethan Nwaneri: Marseille It Ain’t So

He's the best player in the club at making space and shooting around the edge of the box and Arteta won't bring him on against teams parking the bus

Ludicrous

Whatever Arteta’s reasons are for not bringing him on, they’re not because he’s unaware of Ethan’s potential attacking upside. For a coaching identity based on juego de posición, positional awareness and defensive discipline are unfortunately deal breakers.

Although I don’t know how he’s expected to learn without opportunities.

Is getting his development stagnated because Arteta is a chequebook manager that loves favouritism.

He’s going to have to leave to get the playing time he deserves as Arteta will not give him a chance over Ødegaard regardless of who is playing better.

We are wasting a generational talent.

Arteta would rather party with Diddy than start Nwaneri in a PL game over Ødegaard. When Ethan signed that new contract, I'm certain that the plan was to keep him as the Ødegaard backup and develop him behind the scenes. However, Eze came and had his “Let it all work out” game against Sp**s and the resurgence of Trossard means Nwaneri is the odd man out.

I said in one of my earlier posts that Nwaneri should stake a claim for the left 8 whenever Rice is dropped to the 6 spot. Neither Merino nor Havertz have the skillset to operate there, but the coach will find a way to force them in midfield for their “defensive qualities”, which I believe are incredibly overrated. Rice is the only CM whom I trust defensively in all manner of game types and states. Whilst Zubi is deceptively athletic for his size and background, he leaves much to be desired in the big games. He could go out on loan, but Arteta would use the cup games to keep him and have him motivated.

He's 18, and has played for Arsenal in the last 18 months more than any teenager at any other club in the EPL, apart from possibly £35m signing Archie Gray.

Maybe we are prioritising his career as well as selecting players who are both much more proven but also much better paid!

Feels like we’re inventing a bit here. He’s just signed a new contract, and it’s hard to believe he would’ve done so without a clear pathway being discussed.

He’s only 18, we’re a title-contending side, and there’s heavy competition in his most natural positions. When everyone’s fit, he’s literally competing with our captain and best player just to start.

Even with rotation, he still has to edge out Eze and Noni, who both have far more experience.

But he isnt playing at all this season and there’s no pathway into the team with Ødegaard, eze, madueke, and saka. He would even pick a zubi merino rice midfield over giving him a chance.

Exactly, when is he going to play? Merino will get in the midfield over him as well unless he has to be striker.

Nelson signed a new contract after the 22/23 season and Arteta never game him a minute after. Injuries have ruined him but he didn’t get a glimpse that season even when our lw’s looked terrible.

I’m sure the club did have a plan for nwaneri, that doesn’t mean Arteta has to abide by it.

He needs more than just those easy games. Hes curerntly a PL level player and a top talent. On top of that Ode and Eze arent in great form so hes worth giving a chance as it could actually help us win games

I want him and Eze in midfield with Rice or even Zuba behind them when we know there will be a deep block.

We shouldnt be spending 20 minutes to get the feel for the game in these games. We should just try to hammer them from all angles right from the start.

Agree. Issue is Arteta plays conservatively.

The risk in playing our ballers is that the opponent comes out of their block and attacks us. Isn’t this what we want them to do? Win win for us.

Ethan and Eze and Trossard make players miss. They make defenses nervous and reactionary. If they are near the 18, its a problem. Instead of utilizing their talent, we pass the ball sideways and backward, 40 yards away, making it easy for any defense to survive.

Every match we hear that the other side played their best match of the season. The reason is that we are predictable and teams share the game plan.

I'm hoping Arteta unleashes Ethan and Myles for the second half of the season when things start to pick up. Teta can’t expect to challenge for the CL and PL without utilising these two. Pretty sure their minutes picked up after January last year.
