Ethan Nwaneri: New Nwan-era?

Dokaka

Gunner come out of the closet any day now…
Tbf I saw Joelinton wrestling Nwaneri towards the end and I dunno. Personally don't see the rush myself, that tweet wasn't a horrible take.

I find this whole "If only Nwaneri stareted" everytime there is a wayward result a bit tiresome and I don't think people are even thinking anymore when they are yelling to start him.

Low key becoming one of my biggest reasons for wanting to see Nwaneri start, I just want to get to the next chapter of this book ffs

Can already sense @Rasmi queuing up the "Arteta sent Nwaneri out to DIE" posts when he inevitable starts a tough game and isn't perfect.

It actually is a good representation of the level of discourse online. Largely loud and almost completely clueless.

When Nwaneri doesn’t score a goal or provide an assist, he gets “swallowed up”. Proof that people these days literally still watch the football move only. Thats fine… but then don’t pretend to have a well thought out opinion on the dynamics of the team, movement around the ball, player performance, etc

Football watchers these days want to say a lot but they actually know very little. Taking single results, both good and bad and using it to paint an entire season, an entire squad, the manager in a specific way.

What’s sad is that such imbeciles have such a loud platform to spew their ignorance from.
You can say this about literally any aspect of modern society lol. Everyone has an opinion on everything. They don't need to do research, have even the most basic understanding of what they are talking about, most are not even coming with good faith arguments. It's about trolling, ego wars and instant gratification. We need to start holding people to higher standards in every aspect of society

The problem with this take is acting like there is not a middle ground. Like it has to be one extreme or the other. Nwaneri should not be starting every game, but games against Leicester at home when they are one of the worst teams in the league would be a good game to start him.

He actually had to come on as a late substitute to save Arsenal from an embarrassing draw in that game. Games against Southampton and Bournemouth would have been good games to start him.

Obviously you don't start him against a physical team like Newcastle away from home, but if it was a home game, I would definitely start him over the current options.

Starting Partey, Rice and Merino together is simply redundant and not the makings of a team that wants to take even necessary risks. You can't play safe and toothless football and expect to be champions, that's the mentality of mid table teams holding on for dear life.

Joelinton would beat up most premier league footballers. It's like saying Jon Jones would beat me up. Of course, he would he's the in top 1% of fighters on the earth. Joelinton is at the top percentage of strong footballers. It is his whole game. Nwaneri is a file and can protect the ball a lot better than Vieira. He shouldn't be casted aside because of one ineffective cameo.

Thinks he's better than Havertz.

Nobody is saying this. I'm more saying what @Geofranco is saying, there is a time and a place. You guys calling him to start every game to avoid a Rice/Merino/Partey midfield don't make much sense to me.

As ugly as it is, that's the squad we have. You'd hope they would be more equipped for Newcastle away than a 17 year old kid and even if they aren't, they are paid handsomely to do so.

This calling for kids at every opportunity is hysterical stuff, I've seen a lot of you do it for years and years.

Man, you can move Trossard wide and Nwaneri can play behind Havertz, surely we know that much about our players

Haha I'm messing with you mate.

I'd keep Martinelli benched for the foreseeable future. Give Sterling time there to see if he's washed or not, can't be much worse.

Yea because that worked so well. Arteta tried Trossard once this season at LW and never did it again because he was so bad. Maybe(lol) you should at least make sense with your agenda against Martinelli.

Good cameo, hopefully gives Arteta more impetus to use him earlier in matches. Showed better presence in the pockets, although Inter were deeper than Newcastle's midblock. Uses his body well and creates space for others. Would have been nice to see that shot go in but he's a threat and he can't be denied.

50 marks if anyone could explain if Nwaneri is too young to be trusted to start games, why is he expected to win games when we are chasing games? And it can't be down to experience because Teta has brought on Nwaneri ahead of Jesus and Sterling this season. It baffles me. Either Nwaneri is a first-teamer or not.

I bet if Nwaneri swapped his minutes with Trossard today, he would perform a lot better and Tross would probably score or assist off the bench.

I worry eventually he's gonna be molded into a more risk adverse player too, at the moment you can see he's got that youthful energy about him where he's looking to make things happen and speed things up, he's not at the walking/static style of his teammates yet.

Maybe

You're wrong, no?

Think he only plays because he tracks back and all that nonsense, but our attacking IQ drops down so much with him on the pitch. Nwaneri fixes a lot of the mess in our team, but now Ode is back so that train has left the station

He tracks back yeah, and he has had glimpses of quality in the past. I guess there's hope that his bad run of form (that he's having for 1.5 years now) is ending soon.

Nwaneri can play LW too.

That's Trossard's best role. He scored so many clutch goals so far in his time here. He is clearly not a starter for a team with ambitions to win big in the CL and EPL.
