Ethan Nwaneri: New Nwan-era?

He’s at that point where he needs to play. He’s conquered U21 football. It’s an obvious example but look at how Yamal has just gone from strength to strength whilst playing at a higher level. Nwaneri will do the same.

Over to you Uncle Mikel.

Lamine Yamal gets to cut his teeth in several matches per season that essentially are un-loseable for his club.

Whereas outside of the recently promoted teams, even matches against a team like Everton aren't to be taken lightly in the Premier League.

Whereas in La Liga you get to play Leganes home and away. Las Palmas home and away. Granada. Cadiz. Almeria. Rayo Vallecano. All home and away. All league games. The gulf between their top and bottom is massive.

We only get to play competition at that level if we're fortunate enough to draw them in the Carabao or FA Cup early rounds.

And even then, because of how weak La Liga is after the first 6 or so teams, even if Real or Barca drop points, they're more often than not able to get them back eventually.

So sure, if we had 3 games in a row that were the equivalent of playing Granada before we play a City or Liverpool, sure - chuck Nwaneri in for big chunks of matches and let him find his footing. Maybe even start him in one of them.

But that isn't how the Premier League works.

He'll get his chance. He'll find his feet. He'll get minutes. But it won't look anything like Lamine Yamal's introduction to his team, and we shouldn't expect it to.

I can’t help but feel you’re seeing the Premier League as how strong it was say.. 10/12 years ago. Mate there are some terrible teams in this league now.

If you think Nwaneri couldn’t ball out against Everton, Forrest, Wolves, Bournemouth etc, then you don’t rate him anywhere near highly enough. Nwaneri can be introduced in near perfect conditions- in the best defensive team in the league with Rice alongside him and Partey behind.

The gulf between ourselves and many (not all) PL teams is huge now. We’re winning without getting out of second gear. Nwaneri needs to play soon.

Forest and Everton both beat us in the last couple of seasons 😂

Honestly, if Arteta can put a spineless Sambi as lone DM, I do not see any problem playing Nwaneri. He will be "surrounded" by Partney/Rice/Kai. Maybe Arteta can do some adjustment to the tactics such as falling back to 4231 for some stability at the back.

I think people are going to be pretty disappointed if they think he’s going to get significant game time with Ode’s injury. I hope I’m wrong and it would be a very welcome surprise but we have numbers for midfield and we’ll adapt the way we play.

I can see a start vs Bolton but honestly feel that’s as far as it’ll go then sub appearances for a few months.

A year ago most people didn't know Yamal from Dartagnan. What happened? He was given significant game time.

Moving up from the youth teams is arguably the biggest test in a player's career. Some flunk it, some tootle along and some blossom or even explode. We'll never know how good he can be until he starts mixing it with the big boys. Play him.

Don’t know why people are comparing Ethan to Yamal. Talk about pressure…

Aside from all that please remember Ethan plays as an 8/10 and not on the wing which is a more peripheral role. You don’t get pressed from all sides on the wing, your job is much more simplified. It’s not the same.

He’s a once in a generation player. He's the exception, not the rule.

EN getting league cup minutes and the odd 10 mins in the league is great exposure to the first team for a 17 year old.

You're wrong, no?

Didn't they have Pedri and Gabi in midfield from an early age and they were still their best players?

Sambi did actually look quite promising in his very early games though, and at least had a season or 2 of regular football.

I said it before but to reiterate, any start Nwaneri gets between now and the Carabao game should be considered a bonus opportunity. He should ideally be targetting Bolton as his grand opening and building from there. He has to have at least something close to a stormer to really cement himself IMO.
Were it me, I would take the gamble and have him stand in for Ødegaard tonight because he's the one creative player we can use there in the former's absence but it's not realistic.

Arsenal Quotes

In a football match anything can happen, the players, 90 minutes, fantastic moves, an element of luck, talent, courage, and touch of magic and, for those who are watching these men play, the search for excitement, for a memory, for a lesson in life.
