Ethan Nwaneri: Nwan Of Nwan

Why is he not Yamal? He could be. Yamal had 1 goal in his first 23 la liga games last season and they persisted with him. Because they could see he had it, because he added creativity and pushed the needle, more than their other creative wingers. And now this season he is already close to his output of last season, in October. There are a few players where age shouldn’t be such a big factor.

Do I think he can displace Ödegaard? No. But he can play with him sometimes. And we sure as hell should use him when Ödegaard is not available, especially against bottom half opposition. Come on now.
totally agree.. I watched many Barca games last year and Yamal was alternate some great moments to mistakes or moment were disappered from the game. this is absolutely normal for a 17 years old player; but as @razorist said everyone could see the creativity and talent of Yamal...and now 1 year after is already between best players of the world. with Ethan we can see he is a special talent too, i hope Arteta will put him more often in the starting line up also in PL

Talents from la masia are more ready than hale end even Saka didn't start play regularly until his 19. I think for Ethan next season we'll see him more regular. Also as you said 1 goal from 23 games you don't know how harsh arsenal fans can be if Nwaneri play regularly and play bad for few games. I prefer we give him 15 minutes a game then increase it

We can all argue about if he should be getting more game time currently, that's all subjective.

What's not subjective is this lad is going to be a very, very good player. He's a massive danger from the right half space with that shooting technique he has. It would almost seem a shame to move him into the left half space now, so over the next couple of years do we move Ødegaard over to accommodate him do we think?

Sometimes 15 minutes off the bench makes sense. Sometimes 60 minutes. Sometimes a start. Sometimes zero minutes.

It depends on the game state, his condition, and our tactics. If he performs well and earns more time, give it to him. We can’t always be so formulaic and rigid.

That second half against Shakhtar when we were struggling to put 2 passes together and fatigued after Bournemouth is the perfect example.

When we need to energise our attack as we did then, and he’s the best option, electing not to use him simply because he’s 17 is ridiculous.

I could understand Arteta's reluctance if Ethan was built like a normal skinny 17 yo who would get easily knocked off the ball in the PL but his physique for someone that age is extremely impressive, so it's not an issue whatsoever.

A lot of you guys calling for him to start will probably come to regret it if he does end up joining the meat grinder and getting the criticism that comes along with it.

I think the way he's been used if fine and for the best. Arteta is protecting you guys from yourselves on this one.

With Saka and Ødegaard out he should’ve started against Bournemouth.

Outside of that I think we’re managing him well. Let’s build his confidence without pressure or injuries.

A start against Palace will be an excellent measure of where he’s at.

I still think I'd prefer him instead of Sterling when Saka is out as well. Our game looks more natural with the inverted wingers. I'm quite surprised Arteta hasn't given him a bit more game time there as a way to squeeze in some extra minutes for him, as he has the nimbleness and technique to play there and would likely keep the ball better than Sterling in terms of retaining possession.

Who was the last youth player criticized? People go crazy with 10 years of loan deals if they don't do well but don't think I see that much criticism when they are coming through

Palace at home is a kind draw at this stage of the competition, and it's a good test for him. Looking forward to that game, perhaps more so than the Premier League games these days.

There is also the CL, if we can get ourselves in a good position, it could be a good experience for him to get games there.

Some decent quotes from Arteta in that interview.

The 'build brick by brick in the right tempo, in the right order' comment is straight from the Wenger playbook as well.

I think it would be great if Ødegaard could move over to the left more in the next few years, similar to David Silva.

As we’ve seen this season Saka can run that side of the pitch on his own, and you have to utilise Ethans finishing and 1v1 ability.

Arsenal Quotes

An Arsenal fan, when you finish fourth, will say, “Hey, we’ve been in the top four for twenty years. We want to win the league!”. They don’t care that Manchester City or Chelsea have spent 300 or 400 million euros. They just want to beat them.
But if you finish fifteenth two years running, they will be happy if you finish fourth after that.
