Ethan Nwaneri: Nwan Of Nwan

I can understand Arteta wanting to protect him and not throw him in too early and all that but I think he messed up against Bournemouth by not giving him a start. He’s clearly good enough to make an impact and we were desperate for some creativity in midfield. As it turned out we couldn’t have done any worse that was a big miss and a mistake from Teta. Apart from that I think the current strategy of playing him in cup games and giving him cameos in the league is fair enough.

I think next is to give him actual cameos in even games. 1-1 65th minute is he an option from the bench? Like a legit sub to make difference

@Batman and I have been having this conversation, as well.

Ødegaard eventually playing the role Trossard has been playing in his absence would be elite.

Unfortunately I don’t think Ødegaard and Nwaneri will ever happen under Arteta (unless Saka is out and EN plays on the wing).

He’s hellbent on defending in a 442 meaning we’ll always need two proper midfield players (Rice/Merino/Partey/Jorginho) in front of the back 4.

I think cameos in the league and continue to start in cups will be best. I can't have been the only one noticing that the senior players Sterling, Jesus, Merino etc were trying their best to tee up Nwaneri all night as they must have realised it was his night and who everyone came to see.

He ended up scoring the hardest chance out of all the ones he fashioned for himself, but yeah league games it might not be like that.

I have watched a lot of you tear players apart over the years and moan incessantly once familiarity builds, I can't help but feel like Arteta has Nwaneri's management spot on here.

Then he won’t be here for long. Remember he signed only 3 years deal. There will be clubs circling and I doubt young super talent will accept to be held back for too long

Ødegaard was doing the same for him for his first lengthy appearance(?). Just straight up turning backward and passing directly to him whether it made sense with the flow or not. It was hilarious.

Maybe the senior guys all like him or respect the skill he shows in training. I'd rather have that rooting interest than some cutthroat environment where winning is the only thing that matters. (obviously, I want to win things)

I'm pretty sure that Kyran Thompson is actually a winger. He's also ex-Hale End before he joined West Ham. I read before this article that there was a ton of interest in him though, apparently Sp*rs had a headstart on everybody including City, but once we came back in for him we pulled out the stops. We also signed another winger from Millwall who was highly sought after, an U15 called Joshua Sessay. Both players I've seen clips of and they both look very talented.

This might be sacrilegious to say but he doesn't seem to be particularly creative in the few minutes he's got. Can't remember a single chance he's created. Been more impressed with MLS in that regard who looks like he's got a lot of personality on the ball and is willing to try new things even if they don't work out all the time. One thing that Nwaneri has in his locker is he pops up in great positions and is probably has one of best shots of our midfielders which is a difficult skill to teach.

You mean like in the match against Leicester where he did exactly what you're describing?

Why is he not Yamal? He could be. Yamal had 1 goal in his first 23 la liga games last season and they persisted with him. Because they could see he had it, because he added creativity and pushed the needle, more than their other creative wingers. And now this season he is already close to his output of last season, in October. There are a few players where age shouldn’t be such a big factor.

Do I think he can displace Ödegaard? No. But he can play with him sometimes. And we sure as hell should use him when Ödegaard is not available, especially against bottom half opposition. Come on now.
Because Yamal plays on the exterior, in a far less competitive and less physical league, and for a team that is famouslt protected by referees.

Nwaneri plays in a position with greater responsibility, pressure and less time to think, and for a team that is hated by all the officials and in a league where kicking talented kids is almost encouraged, let alone tolerated. Also Nwaneri doesn't yet have the same levels of stamina that Yamal had at the same age, and Yamal was already rated the best youngster of his age in the world before his debut for Barca.

It isn't an apples and apples situation

Arsenal Quotes

When we won the title on May 3-rd by beating Everton 4-0 as Tony Adams scored that iconic goal, we showed everyone and especially Manchester United that we could beat them. Thirteen days later, when we beat Newcastle 2-0 in the FA Cup final in the legendary Wembley Stadium, it was wonderful... I felt immensely proud for the team, for the club: this was the fantastic response I was able to give to those who had put their confidence in me, as well as those who had put me through all those difficult weeks when I first arrived.
