For the start of the new season, Arsenal Mania has relaunched the news side of the site. All articles are written by genuine Arsenal fans with no hidden agenda. You can visit the site via the menu at the top of the forum pages or go direct to our homepage

Additionally, Arsenal Mania is now sending all its registered members a bi-weekly Briefing Bulletin containing a digest of news and views from both parts of the site. Some of you may have already received the first edition and those that haven't should do so before the big kick off against United. If you are a guest visitor to this forum then if you join as a member, you will automatically receive the Bulletin.

Tbf years ago he'd have just been played as an AM no second guessing it, now teams don't play with a traditional 10 or if they do play with a 10 he still has to contribute to the buildup. Just get him in and around the box and he'll do damage.
He has even played as a striker in the academy so it's not like he isn't familiar with that position. His instincts scream CF to me. He can also interchange with the RWinger as we have seen he has enough ability to also do damage one v one and cut in to shoot.

Well well well... seems I was right all them months ago when I said he doesn't really have a position. Got a lot of heat for that, to my dismay, only Hairspray stuck up for me. Let this be a teachable moment to you all.

Imagine taking a cringe victory lap after a game in which he was very good in a very specific position.

I didn't think he was very good. More good moments. He holds onto the ball too much, makes the wrong decision a lot in central areas.

To me he looks best as a Saka back up, but Dowman looks even better there. Dowman has a better burst and ability to beat a man and keep going.

Really strong performance from the young man. But he has the annoying habit of running into trouble. If he released the ball a second quicker, he'd be starting ahead of Ødegaard in no time.

I'd like to see him move the ball quicker aswell. I like that he trusts himself but at the moment it still feels like he's playing at a speed that comfortably steamrolls PL2 opposition but at the moment he's just about treading the surface at PL level. The capacity is there for me, the ball he played inside to Saka was excellent, and I'd like to see him play those kind of passes more often as they're an easy lay-up for him. He does have the pass in his locker, playing a little quicker should unlock that.

My bigger issue at the moment is that we know his USP is shooting - but he's not getting enough shots at the moment. It's not a big deal from midfield but given that his midfield position is the most advanced, I'd like to see him get a bit cuter with his movement to get into those really dangerous positions. He has the mind for a final ball/shot but he's not in those positions enough. I feel playing alongside a more creative player in the other 8 position would be helpful to both him and Ødegaard when it comes to that.

Exactly. He is not ready to displace the captain just yet, but he can play with him. Annoyingly our coach believes you can only line up with one creative player in midfield at all times. I was hoping we’d have our own David Silva and KdB partnership, but it looks like we'll have to settle for Bigbodybuilders FC

He was one of the better ones today, what the hell?

Too many 6/8 types in the XI at one time

Nørgaard wasn't necessary and was a poor use of funds.
Arteta wanted to have the security of a #5 and Jorginho like he had last season. I can see his logic but it ultimately highlights the potentially fatal flaw in his management of Arsenal: his relationship with risk. He avoids it wherever possible until he has to take those risks - and usually when he's forced into those risks, they tend to end up working in his favour. He's yet to understand this for some reason, or just ignores it.

The 2 8s with Rice at the base is the solution, all you need to do is have one of the 8s tuck at the start of the move (Ødegaard). Simple. Signing both Zubimendi and Nørgaard means that the LCM is always gonna lack that guile necessary in the final 3rd. Bless Declan Rice, he's a great player but he does not have that guile.

His best position is going to be CF in the future. Whether at Arsenal or somewhere else, I can see him becoming world class. You can't teach technique and instincts.

I don't see the talent in this guy, surely he has quick feet and some dribbles, but his footballing IQ, decision making is very very bad for someone replacing Ødegaard and he is too selfish. Dowman is by far the better talent, the more mature footballer despite the age, sometimes is just in it... and Dowman also looks faster in long runs than Nwaneri.
