Ethan Nwaneri: Nwanwhere he play next season?

Same as when Yamal came through. Luckily they continue blooding him and never had such terrible backwards thinking like this.
You're right. It is unpopular, but it's also incorrect. If you think he's slow and weak, then you need glasses.
Thanks for staying classy with your replies

I wonder what you thought about today's match

From what I saw, it re-affirmed that he wasnt ready to contribute during the critical tail end of the season

He has exceptional ball retention, but unfortunately he's blunt in terms of incisiveness and a bit passive

There's no shame in admitting that given he's still very young and played a decent amount of football this season

But he still has some developing to do in some critical areas if he's going to make it here

Skelly's future in comparison feels much more certain

It has nothing to do with not being able to contribute and everything to do with Arteta being a conservative coward of a manager.

If he would have played more, he would have improved. It's as simple as that.

Skelly has had a lot of brain farts in defense this season and he still got to play because he's able to play that inverted role that Arteta loves so much.

You can argue that Skelly wasn't ready to contribute towards the end of the season either considering how young he is, but he grew into the role every week, so it's very strange for you to say that Nwaneri isn't ready because of...reasons.

It’s not worth arguing. They really think teenagers in the past were complete package and have ridiculous expectations on him. MLS has made his fair amount of mistakes as you would expect from a young player

So just anti-Arteta agendas ... got it.

For post #1, I was fairly clear about the "reasons" why Nwaneri isnt ready, and the match summed them up as well. It's not a contradiction to think Skelly is ready while Nwaneri is not, just look at the overall level of their performances. There is a difference.

For post #2, that's a clear strawman argument, and I agree it's not worth arguing given you're intentionally misrepresenting my position. Playing youth is a worthwhile investment, but in a season-defining stretch of games, it's not cowardly to go with your best contributors (e.g., see Skelly getting games over Zinchenko despite being younger). In any case, Ethan has played a fair number of games this season so your whole post just screams agenda.

Feel free to have the last word if either of you want it.

He's a kid. You have growing pains and have to adapt mentally and physically to adult football. It's not easy.

Saka and MLS are the anomalies when it comes to adaptation, not the norm and we shouldn't forget that.

Ethan has done very well this term and he'll be better for the experience next season.

Dunno what match people were watching. Nwaneri was pretty good today and his main issue is largely to do with where he receives the ball against more organised defences. The fundamentals are there.

I was concerned with how often he was reluctant to shoot as he normally isn't. I hope that's not a trend.

Nwaneri has the talent to be one of the best in the world, but he needs a manager who values creativity over playing conservatively and recycling possession. If Nwaneri was playing under prime Wenger, he'd be cooking. You think a manager like Arteta would have trusted Cesc in midfield as a 17 year old? I seriously doubt it.

I felt he looked good when he moved to amc. His ideas where maybe not coming off all the time and he clearly lacked sharpness but he is just so good with the ball that even in PL he buys him self always a extra time with his technique.

Feel like with more game time him and Saka can combine well.

He was pretty bad but he's an attacker under Artetaball, par for the course. If MLS was deployed further up he'd struggle too.

Not asking for much...but start him in EVERY Prem game next season even if he's injured or suspended, or Arteta immediately out!

I also thought Nwaneri was pretty good. Also we have to factor in the context of him playing next to the ghost of Raheem Sterling and a very underpowered first XI. I guarantee you he would look better being able to bounce the ball off of Bukayo Saka as opposed to a witches hat.

He's trusting MLS as an inverted fullback at 18 so I don't see why not? Some players are ready and others aren't, its not that deep really.

Mods are unethical! Özil, come assist me please!
Nwaneri needs to win his first team lineup this preseason. Basically, he needs to be the best player on our team...compete with Saka...and be better than everyone else.

Those are the levels.

The issue with Nwaneri is, he's an Özil and as Wenger put it in modern football everyone plays the same way and that means players like Özil are getting kicked out of the game. The more I think about Dowman the more I am convinced his future lies in the wings, cause he is closer to Saka than he is to Ødegaard. Nwaneri doesn't have that winger explosiveness in him that Dowman has and he doesn't possess the work rate and pressing ability that Arteta demands from Ødegaard. Because of this he is struck in a no man's land when it comes to what he can do on the pitch, cause right now he's there to look threatening without actually being effective.

Things like work rate and pressing can improve. Some of you on here are a little dramatic, the guy turned 18 like 2 months ago. Arteta clearly rates him as he has been training with the first team since he was 15. His conditioning and physicality needs work, with more game time I'm sure his positioning, movement and pressing will improve. People forget how mid Ødegaard was when he was here for his loan and initially when he was fully signed and he was already in his early 20s.

It kinda lends credence to the narrative of Arteta protecting them. Some funny takes.
