Ethan Nwaneri: NWhereneri?

Ethan is exactly what Arsenal need. Someone who can control the match, is press resistant, attacks, and can finish.

Arteta can’t see how his presence will impact the other side, who press us individually because they have no fear we can dribble by them.

I’d rather see Ethan given opportunities at Arsenal than being sent out on loan. It’s frustrating that a player with his level of talent isn’t being utilised at all, and the situation feels poorly handled.

The Villa game yesterday was crying out for Nwaneri in the second half. His dribbling and energy could have caused Villa all sorts of problems and added some unpredictability to our attack.
Ethan had a couple off colour performances and a bunch of naysayers decided he wasn't ready/couldn't pass/etc. Arteta may be trying to protect him or hide his lack of trust (or both) but nonetheless, Nwaneri is by far the most underutilised player in the squad and I'd still like to see him get more game time.

Unfortunately Ethan did something more than once that gets you blackballed by Arteta - lose the ball while doing something off script. I still don’t think it warrants being frozen out but he will learn and grow from this.

Ethan is symptom of a larger issue with Arteta in that he seems to shy away from anyone that has individuality and unpredictability that might lose the control he is obsessed about, especially someone who plays central midfield.

In order for any great attacker to thrive they need the freedom not to be perfect in every action which is why i fear we are never going to have great attackers at the club aslong as Arteta is here.

Ethan is paying for that now and i think if Dowman long term is a RCM he will be the similar.

Pretty spot on.

To be fair to Arteta I think he’s willing to give attackers license to make mistakes as long as they react in the way he expects them to when they do.

Pepe lost his place to Saka for that reason, and I fear he sees some Pepe like traits emerging in Nwaneri’s game.

noni has poor end product while nwaneri way better end product than him, so noni still useless signing

i still dont understand why arteta did not trust nwaneri play at right wing after what nwaneri 17yo did last season at premier league and champions league

Are you sure Nwaneri didn’t choose this himself? I feel like I heard some talk about him wanting to be played as an AM over the summer. Can’t fully remember though.

And yet captain Ode lost the ball 15 times vs Villa and offered little. Off script like being brave (not silly) is fine.

Really? I find that hard to believe but if so then fair enough. What it boils down to is a manager who has a clear preference for players who engage in joined up thinking versus those who have main character energy. I couldn't see a player like Salah surviving long under Arteta regardless of his talent, so it's not an indictment of Ethan at all.

I'm not saying I agree with Arteta by the way, but I respect that he's transparent about it.
