Black keepers are always going to get it tough. It’s the unspoken truth really. At one point it was the same for the black CB or CM.

Keepers in general just have it rough. If you look at Arsenal since Seaman left, all white keepers and we’ve had one or two maybe top keepers, the rest have been in the Onana bracket.

Onana will get replaced in the summer, I don’t think you recover from those Matic comments, which were the brutal truth. Onana will go on to build somewhere else abd do well again.

These times there was an unspoken fetish for black midfielders on this forum for decades at this point.

I think many just typecast and are quick to diminish or not give a player a chance if they do not fit their idea of what they should look like/their nationality. Goes for most positions not just GK.

Why are there no good black goalkeepers? I meant of African origin by the way. Enyeama for Nigeria was class in the World Cup, but his club career was average at best. And don't get me started on Edouard Mendy. Bro almost single-handedly made Chelsea fans not wanna kick black people off trains during that CL run. And then, he turned into Alumina with a limper wrist than Louie Spence. Used up all his ability and then got shifted to Saudi Arabia like no one noticed.

He is not a typical "out and out goalkeeper".

We need specialists in each position, Onana playing the role of libero or sweeper like Neuer is a big No.

Crazy as it sounds we have the most European pedigree out of all teams in the competition, don't want to jinx it but if I had to bet I'd say it'll be the same final as 2022. Bilbao are the best team in the competition probably but they tend to bottle it in big moments.

On a serious note I do think the stereotype that black footballers should be strong, quick and able to run for days is partly why we don’t see more black GKs.

Like at youth levels, I wonder if a black kid gets overlooked if he doesn’t fit into that stereotype. And the ones that do obviously you’re looking at turning them into outfield players. Usually defender / winger / striker depending on where they fall on the strength v speed scale.

Sort of a subconscious “they’re only worth it if they can run” kind of thing?

I’ve also thought the same thing when it comes to the lack of cerebral black passmasters in CM. Just look at how Yaya Toure was typecast in his early days before his undoubted talent just shushed everyone.
