Was good to see the protests by fans at the time, but a little funny to see Chelsea and City fans protesting about wanting "fair competition" considering how both basically cheated to get their success.

I think a lot of people underestimate just how much English football fans hate this idea. Like it was something that got Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal fans on the same page....That's basically impossible to do

Sorry but the PL is basically the Super League. A fairly middle of the road English side like West Ham probably have more economic firepower than all but 4-5 European sides.

Quality is one thing but the PL is undeniably the most attractive product out there, that's why it gets the most eyeballs.

Teams like West Ham and Bournemouth shouldn't be richer than the likes of AC Milan though, that is actually insane.

If the Premier League was a kid at school, it would be that tubby ginger rich kid that no one likes as he thinks he's better than everyone else.

The super league first edition will be competing with the PL. Football is a business and if the first edition look to do well. You can bet your money the English clubs would care. Fans will not stop going to the games and after little protest it will die out

Lol, why the heck not? That's such a feudalist framing  - outside of the aristocracy (big clubs), every other club should just be the equivalent of serfs?

Behind the scenes all the 6 English teams are involved. It’s only psg and Bayern who left it. If you saw all the statements the clubs released. It was only psg who made an actual commitment to their league and said they will not get involved

Is there any source to that beyond a Madrid propaganda account?

Gotta love how Madrid, Baca, Juve, etc are all acting like this is about levelling the playing field with the mega rich teams. Obviously that's a big problem, but they never were mad when they were the financially dominant clubs.

Government-mandated community ownership is all that can save this game, but it will never happen.

As @A__G posted this is not the first time the 3 clubs openly said the English clubs are still involved behind the scenes. Both Agnelli and Perez has openly said this. None of the English clubs have openly denied it. They backed off because of bad pr the first time and it was rushed.

You really think kroenke, glazers, bohley, fsg or sheikhs care about the fabric of English football

Think the protests were that huge, because it was a closed system.

The new CL format is absolute trash, so hopefully there will be a better alternative for this.
But the Super League first should show a realistic plan for this tournament.

Sounds like they're in due to contracts signed the first time. Not clear how much they are driving this new idea. Of course, can't really seem any them wanting to be left out if it actually gets off the ground. Probably trying to see which way the wind blows, etc.

Not really. The Premier League if nothing else has been remarkably astute about generating money and even the poorer teams in the league that contribute to the parity which has made it the most popular league deserve to be rewarded for that. Serie A is in the mess it's in because it took its position as the dominant league in the 90's for granted and stagnated along with rampant corruption, extraordinary mismanagement at most of its flagship clubs and putting out a genuinely boring product. They don't deserve to be in a strong financial position, history or not.
