Why do everybody keep saying we should ignore his World Cup performances and he’s super experienced etc?? It doesn’t make sense. Why was he so **** during WC with all the experience?

We need to sign a PL ready CB if we wanna make sure we aren’t taking risks regarding our defence of the title.

Whether it’s Konsa or we come up with something more creative, I’m all good.

But I don’t agree with the sentiment that we don’t need a CB, personally. Even with everyone fit we faced an injury crisis at one stage in the defence, never mind with 1 injured outright and relying a kid to replace him and play almost every game for 6 months.

I maintain that we have at least 10 better and more value for money defenders to bring than this signing. Such a lazy signing that will cost us massively in just 2 seasons to come.

No it’s not. We will overpay for Konsa. We just like to take our sweet time. But Saliba is out for months, Timber is out for a while

£60m is a pretty high valuation for Konsa. £40m would be good and £50m ok IMO.

Salmon is not ready to come in and give serious minutes in the PL, he’s a kid who needs more time.

The people who don't want this to happen - what is the best alternative? For the long term, an exciting 20-22 year old prospect for £30m would be ideal, but the reality is that we need someone who can slot in on the right immediately. A non-premier league defender comes with additional risk and adaptation time. Saliba and Timber being out for extended periods, and an unreliable Ben White, has the potential to derail our season immediately.

I am not sure about that. Salmon is above U21 football. He needs a loan. We are hedging our bets that if we don't get Konsa, Salmon could do a job for a couple of months. It's risky, though.

Too risky for a side going for the PL. The minutes salmon got last season did not suggest he is close to getting that level of trust. Especially from Arteta who expects young players to contribute to the level of senior players to get a lot of minutes.

It seems Arteta wants a premier league proven defender. Isn't Diomande playing LCB (even though right footed)?

i mean defenders are not LW there alot of good players out there we could sign at good price. don't think wise move spending 60M on backup who 28 it's not like Bruno Guimaraes who not only coming here to start but he one of best in his position so we spend big.

If they don’t want to sell him at all I think it’s a reasonable stance from their side? Palace and Brighton were obviously more open for deals.
