Fabio Vieira: The Portuguese Project

Why are you mentioning Bernardo silva and this guy in same sentence? Bernardo is proven world class player start for the best team in uk

Silva is one of the most positionally versatile elite players in world football. Obvious other reasons for comparison are that they're both Portuguese, left footed, diminutive, technical. Not that I was comparing them on this basis anyway, but meh.

Regardless, your assertion that a positionally versatile player is therefore a squad player is completely wrong when you consider Silva, and ironically here you are trying to discount Silva based on his quality from being a versatile player for this purpose.

You could say AMN instead. He is also versatile. If you not a starter in any position, it doesn’t matter. Vieira is a backup player. Bernardo is a starter. Oh he can do good job in many positions, but we have guys who can do better job in every position.

You might want to look up the black swan fallacy as it applies here, but you won't.

Regardless, there is no guarantee that Vieira is a backup player in the medium to long term just because he's versatile - its frankly a silly argument.

He is backup until he isn’t. When he becomes a starter I adjust my opinion

He's a Wenger early-Emirates kind of player, and I'm all for that.
Technically gifted, mobile and can action fast plays that will be great for transitioning up the field.

If we can integrate these technical players with our more direct and powerful wingers, then we offer something different than the teams around us.

I think he'll be a rotation starter (based on opponent) by the second half of the season.

All the bums who were moaning we couldn’t sign Douglas Luiz (🤣) cos we spent £30m on this guy are going to be dead silent everytime he plays.

Great pick up.
If we could go back to the summer and given the choice between him and a DM. Not people would take a DM

Didn't see too much of his passing creativity, but a good debut. He had one great idea for a fast pass for Saka at some point, but it didn't go perfectly and was difficult to do. He has a great shooting ability, hopefully can get more space for faster shots than Ødegaard with his speed and cunning.

Remember all the people frothing at their mouths here how this guy is a project for years, not helping us this season? One of them of course @GDeep™

It's pretty obvious how we needed an AMF who has similar skill set as Ødegaard, while ESR is a different kind of AMF and has had these injury worries for a while. This was done so there wouldn't have to be an excuse if Ødegaard gets injured.

Paqueta would have been more expensive, and likely wanted almost guaranteed starting place which was available at West Ham.

it'll take a bit of time to settle in to PL and learn the way the team plays. It took Ødegaard a long time aswell.

He’s comfortable in a lot of different positions and, like øde, his nose for pressure situations seems very good. He’s also technically secure and can see options in fast transitions very quickly.

He hasn’t shown the same kind of subtle understanding of how to sit in that 8 half space that øde has, so his positioning isn’t quite as good atm. It’s not bad though.

Anyway regardless of the transfer planning we made, Vieira is a player who has some really good traits. He seems to be press resistant, positionally aware and a good striker of the ball.

Its early days, but if he can grow into those things, he could become a really good player. While Ødegaard controls the tempo and supplements our attack, Vieira would be someone who adds a spark.

Looks like he has the potential to pick up dangerous positions in the box but also start attacks with his touches under pressure.
Basically a more technical Bruno Fernandez.

Good to have an attacking mid that is not afraid to shoot from outside the box and has good technique to score great goals. He also had a nice volley against United that was just a bit too difficult to control. Has more natural ability than Ødegaard and ESR.
