Fabio Vieira: The Portuguese Project

Don’t care about the landmark step in having the first couple to play at a PL club if we sign him and Rice?
Seeing some of the squads Arsenal have had over the years we've already done enough landmark steps in giving players with mental deficiencies a chance.

Vieira should've stayed in Portugal for a few more years, that league breeds world class players.

Hmmmm similar to other leagues that one is a bit hit and miss. It’s not even the Darwin Nunez signing which really stands out but others more recently like Vitinha, Vieira, Pedro Porro, Enzo, Matheus Nunes, Fabio Silva who all haven’t hit the heights everyone was expecting.

Even Luis Díaz who was great for his first 6 months in England hasn’t really done much since too due to injuries.

Maybe

You're wrong, no?
So easy to work on transfers these days, clubs literally waste 100M on flops and it's still all good. Vieira is a flop but wasn't that expensive, still doesn't look great on Edu though

Vieira is a moneyball transfer...stats through the roof and seen as a player who could unlock defences.

There is a lot of call for us to get to Brighton's players before they do and this is our shout at doing just that.

However, as mentioned before by others he is the sort of player that can help push us up to 4th, up to 1st and he isn't going to be trusted / other players will be performing so his skillset not required.

He is essentially a Brighton / wolves signing - Brighton as moneyball but probably more than they would ever spend anyway, wolves as they heavily scout the Portuguese leagues.

As has turned out I feel for him, he came in with an injury and just hasn't adapted yet to the way we play, this will take some time despite his stats suggesting he can. Whilst I feel for him I feel he has also deprived esr of much needed game time, he has also made esr look surplus to requirements.

Vieira passes moneyball tests but not sight tests, too much of a risk if going to be considered for number 8, given lokonga was main rival for back up a very risky move.

I am unsure what next season holds for him, I feel he will be retained for the first half a season at least (bed in more with cup games and sub appearances), I would not however be surprised if we do try and either sell or send on loan.

He's simply physically too weak, gets knocked off the ball so easily. He also looks like he hasn't bulkednup at all since he's been here.

There's a player in him but his physical weakness is handicapping him.

Need to cut the losses, sell him back to Portgual for €20m and be done with it.

I believe that Arteta thought that he could be a Bernardo Silva type. Small but strong and hard-working CM. Yet it seems it was clearly misjudged. No point of having him on our books for a long time.

I believe that he will be a good player in Spain but not the mentality for England.

Probably have to give him one more season but my current feeling is he won't make it in the PL.

Strange to pay all that money for a player who needs development in so many more areas than the other young homegrown player he is essentially replacing, ESR.

His prospect in the team seems bad. He and ESR need tailored sesseions to get bulky just like how Eddie worked himself hard in the summer before. If I have to choose between the two, ESR to stay for sure.

I think one of him or ESR have to make way next season. We are at the stage now where we can’t afford having 2 projects in the same position, we need another top player in the Ødegaard mould next season.

Unfortunately for ESR I think he may have to be the one to make way.
