Foden is worst player of year in Pl history? What does that say about the league and football?

Foden is at best the 4th best player in the City set up. At the same time he has 3 goals in over 40 matches for England. Trophies don’t count to determine how good an individual player is but conversely the best players always win things. But Foden is like George Harrison at best in the Beatles, plus City cheats. He can’t carry the jock of players like Shearer, Henry, Ronaldo. i think if you put Saka at City he does better than Foden statistically.

The bigger picture, post covid football is in the dumps. English football is also wildly overrated. For less money La Liga is a much more decorated league in Europe and plays much more technical players. Spain was missing Pedri, missing Gabi, missing Rodri at end of final and no one could tell. Lot of questions about what Pl teams are buying and how they develop talent despite all the money nothing has changed that Pl and England produce technically mid level players

That's somewhat obvious to me. Foden has always been mischaracterized as a playmaker by many neutrals and even City fans, almost as if they want him to be more than he is.

Yeah I can never understand where that comes from, Foden has always been a finisher. He significantly overperformed his xG with numerous goals outside the box - a lot of those could have been difference makers for City.

Yeah I can never understand where that comes from

I like him, but it all stems from Micah Richards screaming "He's Philip Walter Foden, play him as a 10!" this past month or so.

Bit of a myth this. When he wasn't scoring he added precious little to the build up. Most he ever scored in the league was 19 goals too.
In an era with a lot less goals and rules favoring defenders. You didn’t have the goal inflation you had today

Kevin Phillips scored 30 in 99/00.

Owen is ridiculously overrated. Not a bad player but he's closer to Walcott than Henry.

Still better than Foden. Phillips was a golden boot winner Europe for that season he hit a level Foden has not come close to. He scored 30 for F ing Sunderland. Kind of easier at City

Do I need to list the 90s PL strikers who had far better PL returns than Owen? Shearer, Wright, Fowler, Ferdinand, Cole, Wright, Klinsmann, Yorke, Phillips, Beardsley, Sherringham, Le Tissier

Still better than Foden. He wasn’t the 4 th best player on Liverpool

Being the 5th best player in the current City team probably means you're better than the best Liverpool player back then, they were terrible and finished on 65 points. Owen won the award because of his nationality and age. Bergkamp was on a different planet compared to him ffs.

Foden is 10x more involved in the build-up than Owen ever was. Owen spent his entire career on the shoulder of defenders in an era where you played with two up top, he literally did nothing else.

I love past football more the current football too, but come on mate...Foden is easily better than Kevin Philips, even including his weirdly good 1999/2000 season lol.

By this logic Phillips is better than Henry and Ronaldo, as neither of them scored 30 for a team like Sunderland either

Darren Bent bagged 24 for Sunderland in the league una, maybe it's time to have that Henry vs. Bent conversation

Yamal tries an audacious curler in the top corner from outside the box. It bends beautifully, hits the post and goes in. Europe goes mad, he’s 16, he’s Spanish, he’s Messi II.

Foden tries an audacious curler in the top corner from outside the box. It bends beautifully, hits the post but flies away. Europe laughs, he’s 24, he’s English, he’s sh!t.
Two goals and three assists, all in decisive moments vs 0 goals 0 assists 0 influence on the game.

England lost the Euros, it's okay bro you can snap out of your EDL BNP phase and return to normal.

I'd trade away every single player in our squad for Yamal, on the other hand if I had to offer someone for Foden I'm not sure I'd offer Nelson, and that's before I'm considering that this guy watches his mum get beaten up.

Didn’t Vardy score in like 14 games in a row? Insane achievement. Think they were all playing at insane level to be fair, think it’s unfair to single one out over another. They’re all all timers.
11 I think but still, Mahrez and Kante were top class but Vardy was no worse. @Blood on the Tracks thinks I hate everyone whos white and English but the one exception Vardy was one of my favourite strikers of the last 10 years in the league, always going 120%, what he lacked in finesse he had in tenacity. Loved that most of the time he didn't place it in the corner but tried to take the keepers head off.

He’s low key a PL all timer. His legacy eclipses a lot of so called legends the media love.

Leaves Kane in the dust if we are being brutally honest, and I love it.

Only way Harry can even chat to Vardy is if he wins the Champions League with Bayern, league and cup don't count with that team imo.

All these players talking about pancakes or sea bass + rice before a match then you have Vardy having a red bull on the touchline 😭

He’s the obvious one. But it’s scary hours for the north west media mafias golden boys Owen, Fowler, Van Nistelrooy and dare I say it, RVP…

2nd best player on the team that won a hard fought title (Rodri is arguably the best player in the world imo) but scored some high profile goals (clutch screamers live longer in the memory), two hattricks with world class stats to back it, also kind of a breakout year in terms of being finally trusted to play consistently in his best positions. Those little tangibles + him being English led to him winnning it.

Worst in history is harsh, the real travesty here is Rodri not winning it, Foden is a deserved runner up, don't let the media rivalry between him and Saka influence you.

Using city's depth to argue he wasn't important when Pep was playing him ahead of KDB in crucial games is a lazy argument really.

Could Foden play wingback as effectively as our boy Sterling though, I have my doubts.

Arsenal Quotes

You kind of never leave Arsenal. How many comebacks do you make? At one point it will turn out to be a bad move. We all love the first Rocky but I'm not too sure about the last one.
