Almost like he was reading the forum and decided to contribute more in an attacking sense. I don't think it's a part of his game but if he can learn to do it consistently then we're sorted.

Excellent defensively as he usually is.

That's what I thought too!

He started pinging crossfields and slide-rules with precision. The pass to Alexis for Iwobi's goal was well executed. Need to see more of that from Coq.

He's always been an impressive passer of the ball tbf since he first broke in to the team 5 years ago. Fully immersed and comfortable in our system.

Played well today and did what was asked but the pressure was off. Watford didn't press our midfield at all.

When we face a side with a proper pressing game the same issues will arise. Coquelin and Elneny is a decent partnership but on a technical level it needs to be improved.

League is very weak
It's the usual with this current lot, we're good to a certain point before we become brutally exposed.

Cech, Kos, Sanchez and Özil aside.

Thought he had a monster game , won so much ball high up the field meant we had Watford pinned back . Not really suprised by his passing it's well within his ability and we saw plenty of it towards the end of last season .

He sprayed this one pass to monreal from the middle. Thought it was going out but turned at the last minute and landed at monreals feet. Exhibition stuff.

MOTM today. I really dont get the hate he receives, hes had a couple of bad performances, but the man is undroppable IMO. he is an absolute beast and when hes enjoying himself, man its a pleasure to watch, a mainstay for years to come. He plays for the badge and gives 110 percent every game

@dysphoria,

Thanx a lot, mate. I'll try to cover as many matches as I can and will definitely do so for every EPL matches from now on. Apologies in advance for possible future delays on those Sunday kick-offs as it did take a lot of playbacks and paused frames to get every possible details available on screen, but I love doing it, LoL.

I truly think the great arsenal fans here at A-M deserve quality in-depth analyses and stats of our own and shouldn't have to search high and low to get a good idea of what our players are actually doing in each match. Each of us will then have an even stronger basis to form our individual opinion on each of our players.

PS. will also try to group similar types of positive/negative performances and translate them into easy-to-understand and comparable stats as well. Once that is done, I will put them in the Squad Analysis thread for ease of access.

My minute-by-minute contextual summary of his performance against West Ham April 9, 2016:

Coquelin

Assist to An Assist Provider
  • Made himself available in good position at the center of West Ham's half for Alexis' pass from the left flank and delivered a very precise pass to Iwobi who then dabbed the ball up pass players for Alexis's goal (34:27)
Positive Impact
  • Clean slide against Kouyate's surge forward from his own half (interrupted a quick break) (07:12)
  • Lanzini had just stolen the ball from Bellerin's poor first touch in the middle of our half and was about to drive forward with the ball, but Le Coq was there to challenge him and Elneny close by successfully recovered the ball back (21:29)
Notable Credit
  • Positioned himself well just outside the central area of West Ham's box and managed to recover the ball from Carroll's clearance header with his right-footed touch, then instantly mini-hoof the ball to Alexis on the left flank with his left foot (32:01)
  • Battled it out a bit with Kouyate for the loose ball right at the half way line and came out on top of it, good job (40:21)
Negative Impact
  • Failed to at the very least put some kind of pressure on Cresswell who had all the time in the world to produce an excellent cross from pretty further from the edge of our box on the right flank (Carroll scored his first as a result) (43:46)
Notable Mistake
  • Poor choice of recipient in Özil who had Kouyate right next to him. Kouyate then intercepted the pass; luckily, it went out of bounds (55:13)

My minute-by-minute contextual summary of his performance against Crystal Palace April 17, 2016:

Coquelin

Positive:
  • Reacted well to a loose ball from Monreal's header (CRY's long goal kick) and won us the ball back with his convincing header over Wickham's (05:53) #1
  • Marked Wickham well while he was trying to gain control of CRY's direct ball from deep in their half. Coquelin got the better of him and won us back the ball (06:54)
  • Great direct ball from the center of their half to Alexis just 2-3 yards outside of the six-yard box. Too bad Alexis couldn't control the ball and he was also offside (22:27)
  • Positioned himself like a 3rd CB here and promptly cleared Bolasie's cross into the box, well done Le Coq (Both Gabriel and Koscielny were occupied by 2 CRY's players) (25:17)
  • Promptly recovered a loose ball at the center of their half and quickly spotted Alexis available and unmarked to his right. He completed a precise pass to Alexis (34:38)
  • Rare one-touch chip from inside their box towards the right that reached Iwobi who didn't make enough contact to it with his head in his attempt to score a goal (50:55)
  • Proceeded to block Zaha's second cross from the right flank (1st one got blocked by Monreal) and out-maneuvered Zaha to get to the ball before passing it on to Alexis (=counter-attack began) (85:41)
Negative:
  • Not long after #1 he received the ball from Elneny in a moment where we should take it slow because the midfield was filled with CRY's players. Bolasie rushed at him from behind and Coquelin ran with the ball into Elneny's direction and got both himself and the Egyptian surrounded by 3 CRY's players. We lost the ball (06:02) #2
  • Very poor through ball for Özil who ran diagonally from the right flank towards the inside of their box. The gap for the pass was wide and there was no pressure on him; the lad just over-powered his pass, disappointing (07:56)
  • We've just got the ball back in possession and were trying to build up an attack. Özil passed this one-touch ball back to Coquelin and he couldn't properly control it with his left. It was a very poor first touch from him (61:57)
  • Tried to provide Giroud with a through ball from the center of their half. It went with decent weight but the direction was off (not much) and Giroud couldn't get to it (77:53)
  • Could've done better to prevent Bolasie from taking a long distance shot that ended up being their equalizer (80:56-80:58)
  • Lost the ball to Bolasie's challenge from behind and they quickly launched a counter-attack on us (2-3 yards above the half way line, right flank) (88:06)
