French Football - Season 17/18

Nice and Favre are in trouble.

Have struggled to replace the key players they lost in the summer such as Belhanda, Dalbert Pereira, Eysseric, and Baysee.

A few problems they're facing:

1. Cardinale has been utter trash, probably to do with his contract situation.
2. Dante has also been utter trash.
3. The impressive form shown by Sarr last season has disappeared. Looks to have lost confidence in his ability.
4. They don't have a starting LB. Jallet was never the answer.
5. Walter doesn't start enough.
6. Sneijder is old and can't speak French.
7. Balotelli scores but does little else besides that.

I could go on but basically the players who did well last season have been **** for the most part, and the replacements for the players who left haven't been that good.

They will be ok though. Cyprien is back and should be ready to start soon. St Maximin will be back this week as well. They need to sort out their defense though.

OGC Nice snatch a sneaky win against Toulouse.

Dante again atrocious. Got two yellow cards in the space of 3 minutes FFS. Looking very much like the defender I remember seeing at Gladbach before Favre arrived, the joke of the league.

Le Marchand also didn't look convincing. Not sure why Favre doesn't bite the bullet and use Sarr, better than the former two.

My boy Souquet also continues to impress.

OGC Nice and Favre are getting back on track. With the win at Nantes, they are eight in Ligue 1 now after being close to relegation 3 weeks ago.
One talented youngster to keep an eye on, Houssem Aouar, 19 yr old, an other product of OL academy. He scored the two goals today to give Lyon the win at Amiens. Apparently Barca is already chasing him too.

They've been able to field Balotelli, Plea and Saint-Maximin together for the last few matches. Favre has also finally stumbled upon a stable midfield in Seri, Tameze and Lees-Melou. That area was a particular headache in light of the poor performances of Koziello and Mendy, two players who were expected to step up.

Defence is still a problem, Souquet has been the only consistent performer. The four centre backs have been atrocious, though you give some leeway to Santos and Sarr because they're young and they just haven't addressed the problem at LB.

Auclair mentioned him as a player who might be of interest to us in the Arseblog podcast.
