Do you think Gabriel will end up signing for Arsenal?

It would be bad to miss out on this one. We need to be buying CBS that can deal with the league's best players 1v1. Rashford, Mane, Salah. A centre half who is quick, strong, and tall. What we have is Mari. A defender who will struggle against the likes of Danny Ings, let alone an attacker who has more agility and pace. We are making the same mistake over and over again. Our recruitment is terrible and until we address our physical insecurities, teams will be happy to play against us.

€22-€25m is a bargain for Gabriel Magalhães yet some people still think there’s no value in the market. It’s fairly obvious how highly Napoli rate him since they’re getting rid of Koulibaly and replacing him with Gabriel.

We’ll do the smart thing and offer Mustafi a 4 year contract instead of actually going for what we need.

I'm not sure that Gabriel is the signing we need. He is reasonably priced and looks really good in the videos I have seen of him but he only has 39 first team appearances in Ligue 1. Saliba has 28 first team appearances in Ligue 1.

Having two players, however high their ceilings with less than 70 first team appearances between them sounds like a massive gamble to me. I'm all for snapping up young, high potential players but two in the same position is very risky.

This is the fear we all have while we watch another potential obtainable target slip from our grasp.

Should be getting agent Pepe on the case, backed up with his fellow Brazilian contingent.

Would people take something like that for next season ?

-- Saka - Auba - Pepe
-- Partey - Ceballos
Tierney --------- Soares
Gabriel White - Saliba

I know we ain't linked to White, but generally something like this would be refreshing as we'd have a very physical and athletic defensive core.

A 5 at the back for now wouldn't be the worst solution for a season to have some positions fixed first, as long as the 3 CBs aren't trash.

If we've got a stronger backside, the offensive side will end up getting more chances as well.

That’s the sort of risk we need to take in order to get back to the CL. I’d rather Arteta has a chance to work with Gabriel and Saliba as they’re both young, have shown a lot of promise and have the potential to reach the very top. This signing also allows us to ease Saliba in rather than just throw him in with the likes of Luiz or Mustafi.

An interesting read for those with doubts:

No, 5 at the back can **** off. The whole point of playing 3 CBs is because all the ones we have are too **** to play in a 2. If we have 3 new CBs they should all be good enough to play in a 2.

It is a lot less risky 'throwing' Saliba in next to Luiz or Mustafi despite their obvious faults than it is 'throwing' him next to Gabriel who is VERY inexperienced himself.

Lots of people have Saliba, Gabriel and Tierney in their back 4 wish list for next season, 3 players with 0, 0 and 12 Premier League appearances. It seems like complete madness to me however high their potential.

I still maintain we need a partner for Saliba in the 24-27 age range with 150-200 appearances at the highest level. Someone old enough and experienced enough to nurture him but young enough to form a partnership for 5-6 years.

Forget experience and age. It is what you look for in the player. If we play 4 at the back, your two centrebacks need to be comfortable at:

-Playing the ball from the back.
- Winning aerial duels.
- Going into wide areas and dealing with wingers
- Staying on their feet.
- Snapping into challenges in front.
- Running backwards to their goal and recovering.

You know who the last player that we had who could do every single one of those things? Koscielny. You know what experience he had? one year in ligue 1 and the rest of his career in ligue 2.

Gabriel has Champions league experience and ligue 1 experience. He ticks every one of those boxes. You know who doesn't? Mari, Sokratis, Luiz and Mustafi. **** experience and age. I want players who can do their job.

Gabriel at that price, is a ridiculous opportunity and if we pass it up to buy some Spanish CB who is good on the ball, but can't win his individual duels, then what is the point in even competing.

We need to invest in players who can win their duels. If they cannot win their duels, then they best be giving something to the team that mitigates it.

In england your individual battles win you the game. You need to have the physicality to compete. Our centre backs can't deal with Maupay. That is why we are where we are in the league. If they can't deal with him how the hell can they deal with Firmino, Aguero, Abraham, Werner, Rashford.

It just isn't possible. Our two midfielders cannot deal with Lo Celso and Winks. We have no chance until we start signing duel specialists, and saying they are too young or too inexperienced is just a ridiculous excuse.

A Gabriel with experience is VVD ffs.

We won't sign any CB's this summer even if someone like Sokratis is sold.

We have made our choice with Mari/Luiz/Saliba being signed/extended. They will be our main CB's, with Holding/Mustafi/Chambers as backups.

Please, I can't take a whole season of 3 at the back. No coach actually wants to play a back 3, they just do it out of necessity. The only person in the world who wants to play a back 3 is Antonio Conte and he's a nutcase.
