Gabriel Jesus: The Fallen Angel

Macho

Intimidated by Arteta's Wardrobe.

Country: England
I mainly want him out because the inevitable pile on from A-M and Arteta’s fans is too much.

Atleast the Eddie type punching bag keeps levelling up, wonder who will be next once Jesus is gone.

I thought the comparisons to late-stage Laca were a bit OTT but he really is looking like that now. Just feel like he's trying to do too much and ending up doing nothing. Still quite like him as a player tbh but think the knee injuries have really zapped the spark out of him. Even if he wasn't particularly very prolific, he at least had the type of all-round game to bring the best out of others around him. Becoming obsolete in a similar way to Zinchenko and all his numerous calf injuries.
Starting to think him and Zinchenko were double agents sent by pep. To make it believable, they had to start strong to lull the team into a false sense of security before carrying out their mission. Or maybe they are sleeper agents, pep has their keys.

I just think they both had a ceiling and the squad has simply surpassed their level. They were certainly important in getting us further up the table and competing, but the overall profile of the team has evolved and subsequently outgrown Jesus and Zinchenko. They haven't just become bad players overnight and I'm sure Jesus' performance levels will improve at least a little. But what's happened is that they've simply become obsolete, something I did predict may happen after a couple of seasons.

A weird but massive upgrade lol

It used to be Mustafi
Mustafi deserved the criticism. Him, David Luiz, Xhaka and Giroud held the club back for years. Those guys simply didn't have a high ceiling. I like Jesus, but the injuries and that last world cup has ****ed him psychologically.

I see your point but I do think though that with both players, their performances have dropped irregardless of how the club has improved relatively to their quality if you get what I mean.

Yes we have improved and no longer rely on them, but in that’s first season Zinchenko was balling out for periods. Jesus was absolutely breathtaking at times before his MCL. They were good enough to be high quality depth / compete for the first team now, but instead are just utility men. I think they will both be disappointed with their performance levels since the 2nd season.

22/23 version of Jesus looked world class, unless it was just a purple patch. Kinda like 13/14 Ramsey who I never rated, but was incredible in the first half of that season before he inevitably got injured. That Jesus was leading the press from the front, linking up play, dribbling in tight spaces for fun, creating chances and scoring some goals. He looked like the most complete CF in football.

That's, like, your opinion, man.

At least everyone hated Mustafi, he was just bad. He gave you reasons to hate him as a player, he never accounted for his mistakes.

I don't think either of the forward Gabriels are bad and they are still at least trying on the pitch.

Maybe the team has evolved, moved on. Maybe the environment is not doing it anymore in terms of getting them over that slump, but at least they're talented players.

Obviously Jesus' knees are a big concern, but then you move him and buy someone else.

Plus, he still has Arteta's backing which makes some of the hate a bit odd.

I don't disagree, I think both things can be true. With the growing level of the team, their not-so-great performances are far more magnified for sure. I think part of the issue is that both players appear quite emotionally driven - so when they are feeling good, they're amazing and when they're not feeling good, they're 2 packs of doo-doo chips. Given that both players are no longer the sure starters they were when they joined, that must be playing a part.

Confidence is such a crazy thing for athletes.

Havertz was broken by Chelsea and look at him now. Jesus is a big talent who will at some point in his career be an impact player again but who knows when and where, and he’s completely broken right now.

Maybe

You're wrong, no?

I'm not sure about that, Jesus did turn into a bad player "overnight/injury day" and never recovered. I'd take City Jesus or early days Arsenal Jesus over Martinelli any day, it wouldn't even be a competition. I think Arteta still thinks he has something but this business is brutal and Jesus needs to find something before January to survive here.

Agree with Zinchenko, Arteta went for Timber just a year after Zinchenko arrived but we were desperate for Zinchenko at the time because we struggled to build from the back

Jesus thread been a bit **** for the last couple weeks. He’s a backup player, let’s treat him like one. And he hasn’t been getting a run of games or minutes. Clearly the lack of a goal is getting to him as well.

Don’t like the way the fans are being on this one personally.
I think there's widespread disappointment because he was so good early on. Still clinging to the hope that he can get back to that level.

Might not be in the cards anymore, though. I hope he can at least be a better backup than Nketiah was.

For me, what you said in accurate regarding Zinchenko, but not Jesus. Jesus basically fell off after the WC injury. He was absolutely on fire prior to that.

Arsenal Quotes

A team can attack for too long. The most opportune time for scoring is immediately after repelling an attack, because opponents are then strung out in the wrong half of the field. All the men are expected to play to plan, but not so as to stifle individuality
