I think martinelli might be the only player under under arteta's reign who has previously lost his starting spot and got it back. Probably coz we he has the best off the ball movement and accelation in the squad. Jesus has it in him to be offering us more than he currently is and I dont think it's on the wing. He was brought in as a striker after all..

If you don't understand that strikers perform functions other than just scoring then sure.... Maybe Giroud was poor during France's World Cup win in 2018 because he didn't score.

Clive from Arsenal Vision tore him a new one, says his cameo was unacceptable and is begging for Saudi to come in and take him.

It is an indisputable fact that there is more to appraising a striker than just goals. I'm fed up with what Jesus is in 2024 as well. Nobody is arguing in favor of the Gabriel Jesus of 2024. That doesn't change the fact that a fit Gabriel Jesus in his first few months here had us the clear best team in the league and we have never seen an attack as fluid as that one since. That's all I'm arguing.

You can't reduce a striker to simply goals if he offers other things that help the team function. There's a whole generation of football where most teams were playing 442 and in many cases one of the strikers' jobs was to work for the team at the expense of their individual numbers so the other could thrive. That wasn't exceptional. That was how football was played at the time, and it is how football can still be played now if the manager decides to go that route. There's not exactly a plethora of readymade killers playing the 9 these days so sometimes you do need to be less conventional in your approach. Your frustration with that reality does not change the reality.

Somehow reading a comment by Batman about how others are frustrated with reality is quite comical. The whole pot and kettle thing.

On topic: G. Jesus currently is awful to watch and he needs to either play up top or leave. He has nothing substantial to contribute to the team as deputy to Saka.

Him and Trossard have actually turned into net negatives for us when they on the pitch. Do you understand how mad that is?

At this point bringing on Jesus ahead of Ethan in any game / any context is starting to look indefensible.

Trossard is still quite good as an impact sub and occasional starter. Gabby genuinely looks like he's checked out.

Pretty damning 😳

I had some optimism in pre season as he got a full pre season (if I remember correctly you were in this boat too). But unfortunately it’s been an absolute nightmare for him.

It’s actually pretty sad, he’s not 30 or 31 the guy is 27. I think some people would be surprised to hear that considering how quickly he has dropped off at this level.

He could have been such a valuable squad player if he stayed close to the standard he was in his first season.

Biggest **** tease we’ve had in terms of transfers in decades. I actually can’t get over how sh*t he is, his fall off has been remarkable.

Guy gave us Dani Ceballos vs Burnley performances for 6 months then came back and played like he’s had an exorcism to remove every ounce of football ability from him.

Some on here pointed out that he's not really got the ego necessary to be a top striker as early as then.
Yeah I was pretty much done with him in two stages. One was saying he wasn’t coming here to be the main man, the second was Saka taking the first penalty of the season.

Sometimes you just know unfortunately 🥲

I remember not being keen before he signed but @OnlyOne was telling me that being the ‘main man’ would turn him into a top striker 🥲🥲
I was keen. But I already accepted he wasn’t the man before his first injury. He missed about 10 good chances before his injury

Such a shame what happened to him because of his injuries because with his form 2 years ago he would have been a proper starter to upfront. I still have hope he might regain this form.

I wasn't keen before we signed him because the numbers were never there. However, Jesus was transformative for us pre world cup but after that, it was obvious that there was a longer term issue-physically and confidence wise. He's never going to get back to the level we need and I did say that I doubt he will score us this season. A goal vs Preston isn't it.

Couple of great moments where he singlehandedly solved games (and actually playing football). I have a bit of faith on him still, but maybe the faith comes from the fact that I don't trust Arteta to make a better striker signing than him. Jesus was as good as it could get at the time and despite spending a lot more money, it doesn't look any different now.

He's never had it in him to be the main man. Every time he's been asked to step up, he faltered. The weight of pressure of being Brazil's no. 9 was too much for him, and he eventually lost his place to Parrot-Man over at Sp**s. When he was tasked with City's main striker, he was shifted out wide in favour of the false 9 system.

I never understood why believed he would suddenly change under Arteta. Players do not change - well not intentionally. A good system can cover a player's flaws but it won't make them brand new. The biggest change occurs through injuries or misuse by the coach, but apart from that, players do not learn or unlearn attributes.
