Gabriel Jesus: The Resurrection (Pt. 3)

He's not a dependable 9 as a goalscorer or fitness. But he always elevates our attack, adds spark and excitement to a usually rigid forward line. Definitely like to see him play in and around one of the strikers some games. Good alternative to Trossard on the left.

If he can get back to his best form footballing wise, I'd be inclined to start him over Gyokeres, Havertz and Merino as all of them aren't prolific strikers.

That being said, we shouldn't forget how many chanches he'll miss and he'll never score 10+ goals in the PL. Frustrating as hell.

That's a good way to get him injured. Let Gyok and Havertz win the early intense duals and then let him come on every game against tired legs for 30 minutes.

I'm a big fan. Such a clever and technically sound player. Finishing is always going to be an issue with him.

No way we should be looking to extend his contract though. I wouldn't be selling him off in January either. Let him see the contract out.

I love this player

I think people over-emphasize the "lack of goal threat" or however you want to label it, without giving him enough credit for chance creation

Half of his chances he creates all by himself with mazy dribbles that beat multiple defenders

On top of that, he has great football IQ and brings other teammates into the game effortlessly with his positioning and passing

The one hesitation is that his game relies a lot on agility and short bursts to match what he tries to do with the ball ... yesterday he looked very fit, but if he isn't at 100% of peak athleticism, then his moves won't come off and he'll turn into a wasteful player

So hopefully he is well and truly over his injuries

I can see him being especially annoying for Everton next week if we are finding it tough in the 2nd half to break them down. Such a great supplemental weapon to our attack to bring on when the going gets a bit scrappy.

He doesn't even necessarily have to play CF imo. He's also very effective out on the LW and it would be a way of fitting him and Gyokeres together.

Jesus - Gyokeres - Saka would be an immense front 4

Think you need Leo in there to maximise the fun and intelligence.

Swap Jesus for Gyok and put Leo on the left.

They’re so funny.

There’s a reason why teams always move on from guys like this, City with their false 9, Liverpool with Firmino and us with Jesus and Kai.

Eventually you just need someone who knows how to find the goal. I love Jesus and if we could keep him fit I’d get rid of Kai and Gyok while still looking for a starting CF.
Yeah great examples.
Liverpool who was fantastic with Firmino as False 9 signed a 90mil striker who sucked so they used Diaz, Jota and Gakpo as False 9 and won the league.
Then they signed 2 strikers, for over 200 million and guess what? They got worse again.

Moral of the story? Unless you get an absolute physical freak like Mbappe or Haaland you are better of with a "false 9" in today's game.

Not with Jesus. He’s a talented player. But he’s a poor finisher and this time next month he will be injured. This is a Christmas fling. Don’t get emotionally attached to him

i think

trossard/eze - trossard/jesus - saka
-----------Ødegaard----------

that will give us more fluidity in attack and will create a lot chance

It's not like I'm saying he should start every three days He's just probably the best technical striker we have. Maybe I should've been more clear.

So, was my example based on the success of the replacements or the fact they tried to replace/upgrade on the false 9s in the first place?

Engage your brain before you come with unnecessary attitude mate.

Are you serious?
So teams trying other things than the false 9 and failing, is proof to you that false 9 is suboptimal?
You realize how absurd that logic is?

City was the most dominant team the country has seen in the modern era BEFORE Haaland, playing with a false 9.
They have been spiraling downard since signing him.
Barcelona was the most dominant team in Europe in the modern era, playing with a false 9.

Teams are trying both and at the highest level the false 9, a player with high technical ability, almost always works out better.
Even crazy physical freaks like Haaland and Mbappe don't seem to actually make the team better

Glad Jesus is fit again to provide us some minutes at end of the game. He is a special player who can create a spark in final third when game is at a deadlock. His body is not made to provide 90 minutes in the PL, but can be a magician for 20 minutes when we need his service. I don't disklike the idea to keep him around as back up and let his contract run out in 2027.

I think it has to do with de Bruyne, Sterling, Silva, Mahrez, Gundogan and Rodri in their prime to be that dominant instead of playing with false 9.

He physically can't be what he was at his best in 2022 sadly, can't trust those knees anymore at this level.

Which is such a shame as he's the only CF we have had in the Arteta era that is actually entertaining to watch, tbh.

Can't be arsed with the false 9 crap you see these days, had enough of Havertz-esque CF... but my God this guy was one of the few who could actually play that role and genuinely feel like he could never score but was still super effective and key for your team.

None of this Kai "box entries per 90" or "space invader off the ball" , Jesus could turn up at left back skin 2 people and set up a tap in for Martinelli ffs!

Even someone like Viktor (who we don't make it easy for with how we use him) who is a killer, he just isn't an Henry or a Wright on the ball at all... he's quite bad to watch play lol...I miss being entertained by our striker.

Hope he can get fit and play maybe some part in a Title win here, before getting back to a lesser League and enjoying his football again...but I really wish he never got injured, was a top player.
