I am really worried that there are two topics here which should not be even here we need to renew Saliba and Gabriel asap.

Sell Ødegaard. Use proceeds to bump Saliba and Gabby deals. 2 year extensions. Then they can leave

You realize that this post is the equivalent of someone in a third world country questioning why you would need a substantial pay rise because your salary is disproportionate to theirs, right? I'm quite sure you'd think that was ridiculous.

It doesn't really matter "what most people make". That's not his responsibility and should not be a consideration when he's making financial decisions that impact his family. He's a human being with free will, not a slave who needs to turn down massive sums of money because you don't get paid that much. Go and do something that the Saudis will pay you handsomely for and then you won't need to moan like this.

Better still, actually ask yourself the right question, which is not why a millionaire would like to earn more money but why billionaires choose to fund bread and circuses rather than things that benefit a broader segment of society. I never really understand how people are quick to call millionaires greedy but not the billionaires profiting off of both the millionaires and the rest of us.
Agrees. You can not judge a player who choose money over ambition. Who remembers over 10 years for example Grabriel who turned down a once in a lifetime tickets just to help Arsenal win a league title? And for his service, they offer him to be a host "clown" during home games to entertain people.

Even top players back in the days are now doing on the side jobs just to support their lifestyle.

If a Saudi club offering you a 5 years contract for 25 million a year TAX FREE, you will be stupid to turn it down for 5 million after taxes. Even for rich people, you dont leave 100m on the table just to earn respect from fans who forgets you anyways when you retires.

I see both sides here.

I don't know how much Gabriel makes, but some fans, not saying you, act like if these players don't take the money from Saudi that they will be homeless, when that is the furthest thing from the truth.

Gabriel more than likely makes more money in a week than the average worker in England makes in a year.

I'm trivialising this, but if he was to take his salary for a month, he could buy properties and rent them out. Invest 10% in mutual funds or stock or a company. He could get advertising deals back home. There, steady income besides football. The best way to make money is to have money.

If he isn't a complete idiot or gets robbed, him and his family will eat for generations off of his earnings as a footballer. Would he or they be able to live a rockstar life? No, but they will be much better off than the majority of the world's population. Again, Gabriel makes more in a week than most people do in a year or ten years.

If he wants to earn even more money as a footballer, more power to him but I'm not going to exalt him for it or start the Gabriel Defence League. I don't care what his bank account looks like at the end of his career. I'm an Arsenal fan and want to see the team win trophies. My understanding of his greed does nothing for him. That's what it boils down to at the end of the day. If I like my job, people I work for, live a comfortable life but decide to take a big money offer from a Saudi company then that's greed. There's nothing wrong with that though. You got to do what's best for you.

I wouldn't slag him off for leaving, nor do I feel a need to defend it. I just find it weird the tone some football fans come with that players NEED to do this, when they don't.

Selling Gabriel would be madness. Not gonna happen.

Maybe in 3-5 years when he reaches the wrong side of 30. He's still in his prime now.

I said in the Huijsen thread, I thought our interest could be linked with a big money offer coming in for Gabby in the summer.
Really hope we don’t sell him, he’s been better than Saliba.
Just find it strange that we want to pay £50m for Huijsen to come here and sit on the bench for most of the season.

It’s going to happen eventually. Might as well time it right with a shrewd purchase of a younger defender.

Why though? Just give him a respectable contract and then we could still have a top top defender for the next 4-5 years. Look at Van Dijk and how valuable he's been for Liverpool. Replacing him wouldn't really be cheap anyway if you want someone of similar quality (there aren't many). Would have to be a crazy offer for us to consider selling imo. Like them actually overpaying.

You still sign someone like Huijsen at 19 years old knowing one, if not both Saliba and Gabby will be gone within the next 2 years.

Well maybe but he probably wouldn't want to be a bench player like Kiwior is now mostly and Arteta doesn't rotate cb's much. And replacing Gabriel with a 19 year old doesn't take us up a level it would most likely make us worse in the short term. If we actually wanna get serious and win the league we need to keep our core importaint players. The only way i'd be ok with us selling Gabriel is if we get a huge offer and we use the excess money to enable some serious spending on attackers and whatnot. Proper names and talents that take us up a level. like a 200 millon plus outgoing spend summer at the very least.

Other historical top clubs don't really sell their top players in their prime to do it do they. There are examples of course but that's not how you build a winning team. If we sell him now I feel like that would be a very Arsenal of the last 20 years thing to do. You know the club that doesn't win major trophies anymore.

No major trophies next year and the club will be selling major assets.

Maybe. It does feel a bit like we are running against the clock with this project. If we could somehow win the CL this year it would be such a boost for staying up there in the elite and keeping/attracting the best talent.

Rumours around both Gabriel and Saliba every window. Signing someone like Huijsen wouldn’t be a bad shout at all, problem is if Madrid want him they will certainly get him.

Arsenal Quotes

When you start supporting a football club, you don’t support it because of the trophies, or a player, or history, you support it because you found yourself somewhere there; found a place where you belong.
