Gabriel Martinelli: Got That Dog In Him

Works hard, just needs good run of form and confidence. I don't want to be too hard on him. His speed is crucial.

Just needs that special special bit of quality.

Immense shift defensively but is lacking confidence in the final third.

Feel he’s becoming the modern day Walcott where the questions around decision making will always be there.

Walcotts finishing was really good as he matured. If Martinelli does improve on that aspect then he would be a good squad/rotational player.
But I fear he is not starting quality and we need a good LW.. Kvara(wishlist)/Williams level.

Worked his socks off. Good game as well, won most of the duels etc.
Nobody argues he doesn't fight and bite. His problem is he is not even capable of dribbling anymore, his low IQ football and now he is losing confidence to scoring his chances like today. Clear goal opportunity and he has two options, gave it to Saka or go 1vs1 against GK. He decided a weak obvious shot.

It would have never arrived in Saka's feet though. Defender would have intercepted it. Also if he took 1 more step he would have been cut off by the defender too so shooting was a good option. He just missed it unfortunately.

I don't know which is more frustrating. To see Marti playing, or the fact that he can't succeed, even though all that skill and talent is hidden somewhere.

Maybe

You're wrong, no?
I mean the jokes here are obvious, but it's also just true that this sort of thing is what keeps him starting games. Arteta values it a lot. Question is whether it's worth the wastefulness.
I don't think there should be any questions out there, all 3 forwards need to contribute with some 15 goals and 10+ assists for us to have a chance and this guy isn't contributing anything in the attack.

Questions won't be asked though when our CBs bail them out like yesterday, and I hope Arteta is not that delusional to value that over his offensive contribution, which is his primary role

Tbf to him, I thought he linked up very well with Timber am going forward and worked back well. Hopefully he’ll get back to what he was in time.

He was great bar that messed up chance that epitomises him - instead of squaring it to Saka he wanted to place a shot from an impossible position.

But he did set up Havertz well in the 1st half and generally felt quite busy on both ends. Thought he had a similar, if not better game than Saka - and looked more dangerous, too.

For people thinking Sterling will just pip him to that spot, I'm not so sure.

Arsenal Quotes

Football is a bit like elections. Before it's unpredictable. After it's unexplainable... But there's an opportunity for us to make it unforgettable.
