Gabriel Martinelli: Got That Dog In Him

If Martinelli took another touch, VdV would have recovered to cut the angle and Udogie was close enough to Saka to cut out any pass to him. A pass to Saka was on but only a left footer could have made it. A right footer was never making that pass.
"A right footer was never going to make that pass". One of the things that continues to amaze me about football is how one-footed a player can be at the top level. They've had the best training in the world. I got all the technical training you'd expect from playing in youth leagues in Melbourne and Southern California, and even I could bend a ball with my (non-dominant) left foot by the age of 15.

Can you play midfield?

If only his attacking efficiency could match his incredible off the ball play

Thought he was fantastic tbh. His defensive work is invaluable really. I’m sure he’ll get his decision making together soon

Hot streak Martinelli buries that chance with ease. I'd prefer our forwards to be backing themselves to score there, the resulting shot was just poor.

The consistency is those moments is obviously what separates the elite though, and mistakes that cost you in the latter stages.

I'm ambidextrous as well, so I also don't get it. I think it may just be case of leaning further into a strength, and not giving a weakness sufficient attention.

It would have never arrived in Saka's feet though. Defender would have intercepted it. Also if he took 1 more step he would have been cut off by the defender too so shooting was a good option. He just missed it unfortunately.
There was an opportunity for an early ball to Saka or to cut across the defender and get a high quality shot off.

It wasn’t the worst decision making in the world but it is the kind of decision making that doesn’t win you trophies. Mikel was fuming on the sideline and Saka wasn’t happy either.

Despite that he had a good game overall, the stats show it too, but those moments are key.

Nah man. There is no defending that. Saka had a tap in. Even if he had the right to go for the shot he should have moved closer to open the far post. It was just poor decision. He needs to find his instinct again.View attachment 27830
Yeah an ‘under hit’ cross here allows Saka to put his body between Udogie and the ball and maybe get an effort on, alternatively he could go more textbook and fizz it far post which would be closer to Saka than Udogie.

If he wants to shoot it’s difficult but he has to finish it exceptionally or cut back across VdV who is obviously going to overcommit.

All in all it wasn’t a terrible decision but when there are like three better actions you could have taken it kind of sums up the current situation.

Martinelli f*cked up that bit of play, as shown by Saka's frustrations - it's ok to admit it guys

All considered he didn't have a bad game anyways. He had one chance all match and played it wrong, happens to the best.

I actually think that pass is not easy at all. But what he did in the end was not what he should do. He is still 1-1 with the goalkeeper with all defenders behind him. The place he takes the shot from, it needs to be a perfect curled shot to score. He could continue running and delay the shot, try to come inside and take a shot from a better angle. He just needs to get his composure back. I am sure he will get back to his best soon though.

If anything it’s the reluctance/inability to use the left that cost him there.

100% confident that Saka in the same position on the right plays the early ball. If it gets cut out put it down to poor execution or good defending but he would make the right decision.

This should be his task now, to learn to use left foot.

@MaraDon posting out of hatred towards Brazilians. He's done his job against Spuds. How can he do all of this when he's not good enough?
Every time this kid gets the ball in our half is an accident waiting to happen.

he is not prolific enough, he can be devastating with spaces but we don't play with spaces 90% of the time. He took advantage of the Sp**s system and still was not able to score.

we can do much much better there.

agree with @El Duderino. Xhaka is an immense miss, but still, I feel Sterling can do a much better job there.

Like almost everything Arsenal related that instance has been analysed to death.

That performance although not amazing won’t harm Martinelli’s chances of starting the next prem game. Especially with the injuries also building up his case.

This is why he will never be good enough. Sadly martinelli will be here few more years where he scores here and there and it prolongs his arsenal career

Arsenal Quotes

Ian Wright was the incredible striker for whom those around him sometimes found hard to control especially the opponents. He was an extrovert, hyperactive, and had endured an extremely hard life. His playing style was instinctive, and he had that killer instinct, a player like no other.
