Gabriel Martinelli: Got That Dog In Him

2 assists 1 goal in 2 games he's done alright but I just feel he's not getting into 5th gear lately, felt more exciting and explosive a while back.

I do feel like his dribbling used to be more inventive a few years ago. He was never in that Neymar/Robinho etc class of really elite Brazilian dribblers but he seemed to have a bit more spark and creativity when taking on defenders during our first title challenge year. Nowadays it seems like he only ever really squares up the defender, knocks it down the outside, and hopes his acceleration is enough to get around him. Hopefully with a bit of confidence some of that improvisational dribbling will come back.

I told everyone Kai’s crap passing abd finishing was ruining Martinelli. He mussed two big chances but is starting to string together performances. Once CalaNesta stepped it and provided him quality run and through balls Martinelli was in shock. Martinelli at his best plays the ball off someone and runs into space.

Looks like a confidence issue, usually he finishes those half chances. Also he is trying too hard sometimes, he needs to keep it simple.

It’s a not having to rely on Kai’s sh.t passing on that side issue for once

That's, like, your opinion, man.

did really well for the first half, took players on and got on the end of things.

Was a bit isolated once we took the foot off the gas by the tail end of it, which is understandable.

Yes, those were some bad misses, but he also found Kai with a left footed cross during the second half. The important thing is that there is progress here, and it's enough to work with right now.

Poor guy has been mishitting everything and the one shot he catches flush (on his weaker foot) ironically if he mishits it - it probably goes in 😭

Anyways I think you’ve got it spot on, he is definitely improving compared to earlier in the season. Still a long way to go to reach the levels we need though.

The difference between how he played in the first and second halves suggests that Calafiori on the left will be key to getting the best out of Martinelli.

he should have scored on the 74th minute, but once again his shooting technique is shown to be lacking.

once again I have to say, he needs to polish his right foot

The one touch flicks from Saka to Trossard to Havertz to him striking it right at Donnurumma could have been one of the goals of the season. I want to root for this guy but it's hard. Would still keep him as rotation if they can really upgrade.

Has stagnated a little but his workrate at both ends of the field cannot be understated.

Not a lost cause like Jesus but needs to polish his finishing to become truly lethal.

Arsenal Quotes

I think without doubt that Bergkamp is the most talented player to have played for Arsenal in the past 30 years, for as long as I can remember
