Gabriel Martinelli: Got That Dog In Him

Maybe

You're wrong, no?
He is done here. Seeing how Arteta has moved, ruthless (if you are not his favorite) . Next summer we move for a starter there. Saka is nailed on, Havertz is Artetas love. Martinelli is done. There is not other place we spend big up front (we should on a striker, but we won't)
Seeing Arteta on the bench tells you all, the guy is done 100%, it's just a question if he's out from the first 11 in Jan or next summer. The last time I've seen Arteta losing his **** like that was with Pepe, and we all know how that worked for Pepe later

This is your brain on ITK addiction

just not a starter on a team with title ambitions
Agree with this, he has many chances to score, but he is just too bad. Look at our past targets Raphinha, Mudryk, Nico Williams, Arteta always wants a new LW, but the fans want Saka's backup, Arteta doesn't want Martinelli to be a starter anymore. A new LW is needed, and my dream is Rodrygo, kvara or Leao

With the club investing so much on him with his 170k wage. He’s not going anywhere. But he has so many things like this in most matches that don’t really show up in stats. But a lot of poor moments that for top players are not a big deal. I still haven’t forgiven him for that last second poor pass to saka at anfield

If you guys are talking after this season ends then possibly but Martinelli does a lot of hustle work which Arteta values. I'm not sure at the moment.

I need him to be the Martinelli of 2 years ago because the other left wing options are not serious.
Needs a system tweak, the current system asks way too much of him so I admit my criticism is kind of pointless at times.

It’s just annoying to watch at times because the type of winger we should sign would snap your arm off for the dribbling, crossing and shooting opportunities that he gets.

just not a starter on a team with title ambitions
And it feels like every game there’s a clip of 1-3 crucial opportunities where he should have done better and you know there are players out there who would.
Good squad player I think
180kpw means that they’ll probably move to sell if he becomes an established squad player. Depends on the wage budget I guess.

They did a number on him yesterday because Konate could gamble on him with us having nothing upfront. When they scored it came from him getting a weak pass and martinelli and Trent running towards it. Konate leaves the middle and run to the left with zero care for what was in the middle and that’s because we had no one in the striker position
They do the same number on him every time we play against them because he's actually afraid of Konate. It has nothing to do with what someone else was doing. He was one on one with Konate half a dozen times and retreated every time. It was cowardly.

He’ll start every game if he’s fit. Anyone who thinks different just doesn’t know Arteta.

I don’t understand all the sideline stuff - Tets does this all game every game he dgaf.

No he does not. Well, he does but not to every player.

When one of his signings trip over themselves or kick the ball out of play this guy is still like a statue not reacting, knowing guys like me are watching. Contrast this to how he starts harlem shaking when one of Edu's data signings does something dumb.

This is why I openly call him prick with full chest, this is him, this is the games he plays.

I dunno. Saw him do it plenty when Havertz was in midfield. He’s just a bit of a knob tbh.

He also went BALLISTIC at calafiori a couple games ago - a player that Mikel pushed and fought for.

On the flip side I never saw him (afaik) rant like that at Zinchenko but he might as well be dead, guy is like 4th choice now.

If you want to know how he feels about a player look at his team sheets, not at what you think his feelings are based on how he’s acting out on the touchline.

I agree with @Maybe anyways when Arteta starts getting visibly "upzet" on the touchline McDonalds league is pending.

I've studied Arteta intensely, I even compiled my own little glossary for his bullshit:

Back to Martinelli though - when I look at our starting XI the 2 positions that can be upgraded most (for me) are LW and Left 8.

I know Merino only been here a minute and you guys might think I’m hating - it’s not that. I like him, I’m just saying my benchmark for that role is Barella and there is literal levels between them. Likewise Kvara and Martinelli.

My suspicion is that Miku doesn’t feel the need to proactively go to the market and upgrade / replace the way we did with Rice. Which is… frustrating.

If we buy a player in those positions it will be an opportunistic buy - either a release clause or a young talent or an old hand that’s looking for a new home.

Lots of guys dreaming of Kvara et al - it’s not gonna happen guys I hate to break it to you.

You are already judging merino. But our striker who had a shocker is not a concern? Until we fix the 9 position. We ain’t going far

Out of curiosity how do you know who is Arteta signing and who is Edu?

Guesswork, I don't know.

I'd bet my left nut that Arteta did not sign Tavares for example. To tie it into Martinelli, he was already here when Arteta joined the club (the sole survivor now unless you count Tierney). Due to Martinelli's sheer doggedness and good behaviour he's been welcomed.

However, if you remember Mikel was very reluctant to bring Martinelli into the fold in the first place. To the point that many on the forum were entertaining loaning him out.

He had ONE shocker like this calendar year. And my opinion on Merino vs Barella is not based on his 2 appearances for us. Unless you want to argue that he is on Barella’s level?

It’s been said many times but it doesn’t matter who you get at striker, with everything Arteta demands in that position their output will be capped at 20 goals, which Havertz is likely to hit. I’m not saying he can’t be upgraded I’m saying it will be less consequential than upgrading the other 2 positions.

I can only see Arteta changing the approach if we get a Haaland level freak.
