Gabriel Martinelli: Got That Dog In Him

Never thought he was as good as Saka technically at any point. He was just a more explosive athlete. I actually thought his finishing was the thing that had the most potential.

Yeah his finishing in his first couple
of games for us was sensational. All different types of goals as well. Feels like it’s all been completely coached out of him.

Finishing is also a technical quality but go and look at how he used to take his man on. It wasn't just kick and run. He had his head up more than he does now. Idk what has happened to him but it's really sad.

Yeh Martinelli used to have that cutting edge in the box. It’s weird that he looks like some standard erratic winger and no longer has that knack for goals.

He seemed like he was a natural goal scorer before. Confidence has hit this guy hard.

As his passing accuracy increased over the years, his willingness to shoot and dribble has decreased. He can easily switch it around. Just needs some coaching.

Yes needs some coaching but by someone who has a clue about attacking football. Teta is more of a Rafa/Jose than a Pep/Klopp.
Gabi will never make it in our current setup, the only reason he plays is because his defensive work is top notch and our other options are piss poor.

Martinelli is suffering quite a lot due to our new style of playing. We request our wingers to stick to the sideline where as before with Lacazette and Jesus upfront, our wingers were playing as inside forwards. Martinelli did what he is very good at, be in the box, run behind the midfielders and so on ...

Now he needs play link up plays in triangle forms, further away from goal and try to beat its man. Not his best attitudes and therefore he is getting exposed. Not his fault but the manager is at fault as he does keep to request him things to do that he is not capable of doing...

A player like Gabi would thrive under a attacking coach like Klopp.

Could you send me a link to this article, please?

Their ball retention now is ridiculous but, in saying that, we still tried to funnel their play down the left as Gabriel is less likely to see the situation as quickly. That was also because, while Martinelli is a great player, he doesn’t quite have as much to his game as Saka and is a bit more one dimensional, so it felt easier to control.

He's awfully young to be asking this about, but he has had a knee surgery and a pretty bad hamstring pull. Has he just lost a step (or even half a step)? We're not seeing him blow people away for sheer pace anymore.

I’ve said this for a while but actually I don’t think the numbers bear it out. He hit 35.5kmph this season at some point which is around his all time top speed.

I think it’s more to do with confidence, and also game state. Arsenal often waits for the opposition to get in shape before attacking these days to lower the chance of a counter attack. He used to look better before because he was attacking dishevelled defences.

He still as quick as ever. Don't think his athleticism has been affected that much. He just needs a higher football IQ and technical proficiency. Plus the options on the left are not helping him much.

His best season came after his big knee injury. I doubt it's the injuries causing him to play poorly.

It honestly coming to stage where you need to admit the guy just will keep being like this all his career.

If he don't figure it out how to be smart against fullbacks then the fullbacks will keep doing same thing to defend against him
He has no ideas. They know he can't cross with his left foot so him going down the line is pointless because he's either going to float something inaccurate that gets cleared or turn back onto his right foot and try to shoot or cross. He has not even one reliable move to beat a defender and he seems afraid of contact. It's shocking how much he's regressed as a player.

This is where coaching comes in. He wasn't always this one dimensional and he did some excellent defensive work vs Inter. He's not great but I don't believe we've got the best out of him. He seems killed by a dud system

They had a counter and he got back and won the ball as last man. That’s why he’s so valued by the manager. As a player he’s done. You don’t get as many chances in a big club like he has while producing so little

I constantly read similar stuff. How do you guys think someone improves their thinking, decision making and becomes smarter? Those are factory settings, they don't improve after a certain point in life. He can drill some specific situations and potentially with experience some things might happen to be more automatic, but a lot of that simply can't be improved. The player you see today is gonna be more or less the same player in 5 years

Arsenal Quotes

Don’t be scared to be ambitious. It’s not a humiliation to have a high target and to fail. For me, the real humiliation is to have a target and not to give everything to reach it.
