I'd keep him as a squad player because he's still young, but some on here keep hoping that he'll replicate his form from 22/23 season where he he had 15 goals and 6 assists in the league but also managed to do this. The fact that he can't pick this pass as a ****ing pro to give us a real edge for our first league title in years angers me till this day.

He has become gradually worse and can't start next season.

I think that season was the textbook “purple patch” year.

The reality is he’s very average technically, but a decent finisher, good athlete and brilliant defensively. Hes also just a very likeable player, loves the club and gives everything,

Hes a really useful player to have, and although Trossard is a better footballer, is worth less to us as a squad player than Gabi.

If you receive a good offer for either of them you have to let them go.

Was on Vinai's payroll; misses 4th place trophy 🏆
He likely an option for Bayern and won't be surprised they try for him if other deals prove difficult but he like 4th option in thier list Diaz Simons ahead of him maybe Rodrygo if he becomes available

Why would they go for Martinelli just to unlock the potential for us to buy Rodrygo?

Okay I get it, we are stupid enough to do that for Chelsea but there is something very suspicious happening between the 2 owners.

Bayern would be very stupid not to go for Rodrygo and even if Rodrygo does not want to go to Bayern, they will wait for us or Liverpool to go for him and then negotiate a lower price for Martinelli/Diaz ...
They have Musiala, Olise and Kane as their stars and Gnabry and Coman as their capable options.

The Luis Diaz bid shows they want someone good but not amazing. That’s why they have some interest in Nelli. He’s probably quite far down their list though, possibly even below Trossard.

Prior to this there have been two moments where’s he’s been through on goal in a 2v1 and has chosen a poor shot over squaring to a teammate. One or both times he got away with it and scored anyway but it’s moments like that and the picture you posted where I knew with certainty that he would never be a top player. It’s inexcusable.

If we manage to sell Martinelli and upgrade him with Rodrygo or Leao then that would be insane. I do really like Martinelli, but I feel he's not at his best in this team. Maybe now when we get Zubimendi and Gyökeres we'll see more of what he's good at, but I do have a feeling he needs a change of scenery to take the next step in his career and development..

I think Gyokeres running to the left with support from Rice will see Martinelli have a really good season. Part of the problem is he's so isolated. MLS doesn't overlap, leaving him on an island. Rice helps out, but having someone to help occupy defenders will benefit him.

He was great when Jesus was the striker, but Havertz only drifts to the right, leaving him exposed.

Agreed martinelli is usually left 2v1 on the left side, there is no full back support and rice has to make the run on the over lap on MLS.

If we had a bit of guile in our LCM then it could unlock martinelli like on our right we ode and saka.

I like him as a person but 50/50 as a player. I'm not sure he'll find the key to unlock what we've seen in previous seasons tbh. I couldn't really argue against selling him and Trossard and starting again on the left

You sign a high potential young player, give them top wages after a good season but they turn out to only be decent.

A top club thanks that player for their services, gets a decent transfer fee (because yeah he’s not good enough but he’s not crap either) and reinvests into another high potential young player who has a chance at developing to the level the club needs.

At Arsenal we just stockpile these players and wonder why we don’t win trophies.

Yep we know what we’re getting here, I’d happily replace both. Sign Eze as someone where you know you’re gonna get a certain level of performance then sign someone say Noni in 2023 or Gittens this summer on low wages where the fee is worth the potential. If it doesn’t work out, move them on in a few years and repeat. We’re just doing it wrong.

The bolded text above is where the DoF takes over and drives the direction of the club. He doesn't need a consensus with the manager. The question is will you play X. If the answer is no, then move X on.
