Gabriel Martinelli: The Grift Of The Gab

It’s a tired debate atp but my pedantic self will say Saka was definitely goal side at some point which means he could have remained there with the right pass.

Yeah if Martinelli plays it across with his first touch Saka is in 100%

I’m just getting triggered when people say he should have passed instead of shooting. By the time he shaped to shoot the pass wasn’t on.

It doesn’t matter anyway we not scoring an open play goal until Ødegaard is back.

If he squared that earlier, Saka runs across the defender so Udogie either fouls him for a penalty or he has to let him tap it in.

The real issue is that Nelli is a low IQ player and so his decision making in these moments is too slow.

Did you even bother reading my follow up posts fs.

Don’t know why I make an effort with you sometimes.

He’s just found his level imo. He’s not a very good footballer but in the right conditions he can be dangerous

You edited multiple times to add stuff on. Clever.

This post numbnut, it’s from this afternoon…

Still waiting for the screenshot? You’re the one that started waffling and declined.

I’ve been very clear on this. Martinelli had an opportunity to play in Saka with his very first touch. He would need to have run across the ball and played it in with his left to get the right bend on it so it could reach Saka. The angle of Martinelli’s run made this a bit difficult.

By the time he takes his second touch Udogie has moved level with Saka (as your screenshot shows) but is carrying more pace (which your screenshot doesn’t show).

Once you account for the time it would take for the hypothetical pass to reach Saka (unless you seem to think Martinelli can pass it at relativistic speeds) Udogie would have been able to intercept.

This move went wrong with Martinelli’s first touch. He should either have released Saka with it OR he should have cut across the defender to get a better angle. He did neither. It’s not good football but it’s also not career ending bad like it’s been made out.

Still want to try and embarrass me?

The pass would've been significantly harder for him than running and shooting (for a better player pass would be a better option). I think with his ability he made the right choice with poor execution, but I'm also a bit surprised you guys are expecting him to execute that pass when half the forum can't decide on it by watching it on video and we all know how poor his passing is

It wasn’t that difficult a pass for a winger who plays for Arsenal and Brazil.

For all his shortcomings, Martinelli is the only player we have capable of running in behind a defense. We need that kind of threat, at this point you hope he gets his finishing together. It's a necessary dimension in a lot of games.

I genuinely don't know how anyone is defending him at this point. As I always say, he's a nice enough kid and he works hard but I remember when Walcott used to be called a scarecrow because he was missing a brain and his football IQ was probably about 50 points higher than Nelli's. This is like 18 months now of mostly poor play because even though he was scoring in the back half of the 22/23 season, he was playing quite poorly. He's a worse player than he was 2 years ago and that's damning at his age.

I miss having a Sanchez on the left, tbh...just someone we can give the ball to every now and then and they pull something out of the bag when the system isn't fully working.

We need a player who can just do something special in our attack, every player we have kinda feels like they are trying to do the leg work for an X factor player that doesn't exist here anymore lol.

He could’ve driven the ball across on the angle for Saka to tap in with his right foot at the far post.
Thank god there is another one who sees it as simple as I do. Cannot understand Martinelli's passionate defenders. Its not that hard of a pass and no he did not have 1 millisecond to make it.

I don't think we have the passing capacity to utilize that, what we do well is combinations on the edge of the box but it isn't happening that much on the left, and it's hard to say if it's because of Martinelli or players around him

Our best tow chances in game comr to him just too much space both shots were extremely wide. It's becoming depressing to watch him at this point and make me sad because the guy extremely talented he look lost

Went from quite badly underrated to really poor.

I know improvement isn’t linear and all that, but it’s been over a seasons worth of subpar performances now with more than enough opportunities to turn it around.

His weaknesses have always been apparent, but were offset by his strengths which are all but gone nowadays.

Hope it’s a matter of just needing one to go in to mentally get back to it, but it’s starting to become a bit worrying.

our first 25 minutes in this game was really impressive Atalanta were struggling to get out thier area just unsure after that why the big drop off maybe Atalanta weren't into the game

But I said during the game we didn't take advantage of this just didn't create enough
