Gabriel Martinelli: The Grift Of The Gab

Decent game, the hype of smashing Madrid is making people over glaze imo. Which is fair enough.
He has the biggest advantage in that he was always gonna play a midfielder. Next match with camavinga suspension I expect them to move him to midfield and come against Vasquez. Has to be very brave

Tbh I haven’t watched Nico enough to go all in on Nico > Nelli but from the little I’ve seen I don’t think it’s close.

Nelli does this thing where he can kind of pretend to have a good game by going down the outside and creating an illusion of having his fullback on toast.

Really and truly the fullback is allowing him to go on the outside and his delivery when he does is mixed at best.

Valverde showed him outside (he’s not even a fullback) and he took it every single time. Not a problem in this game but you need your winger to be able to cut in effectively because he’s too predictable atm.

Tbf what Kvaradona and Doue did vs Villa is exactly what separates the world class or top talents from very good but not world class players like Martinelli.

I feel like if Martinelli just got cut in and shoot lessons from Saka he could go up a level or two.

Doesn’t matter how many lessons he has imo, he’s just not got that smooth shift of the ball that the real top top wingers have. He relies on running in straight lines at speed, but ask him to shimmy and create space he looks awkward and stiff.

I want a top drawer 1v1 guy on the left, who that is though is another debate.

Exactly. Another thing that Saka does very well that is quite unique to him is that he doesn’t get/choose to cut in that often. Just like Martinelli he tends to takes the outside when it’s given.

But his delivery when he does go down the outside is ridiculously dangerous. Which in turn frees up the inside for him more

He was more than decent imo, thought he was class.

The over glazing has been on Merino who scored an amazing goal but was invisible in the first half at CF when we needed box presence.
Merino is not a CF though, he is a pretty basic midfielder who has good finishing. Really need to get a proper CF and stop all the makeshift shenanigans.

Was on Vinai's payroll; misses 4th place trophy 🏆
There reason I don't view him as guarantee starter at top 4 club at least he inconsistent he either good or just forget the football basics
