So Martenelli is the new scapegoat.Yes he didn't do much today but that can be said for the rest of the team..I noticed how little we play from our left side everythng ultimately goes to the right with ode n saka.Martenelli surely needs to improve but the hate is getting too much now.

New? He's been **** for two full years now, besides the odd decent game.

Just awful awful today, appears to be getting worse year on year since peaking in 22/23. The 15 year old managed 19 touches today in 15min and Martinelli could only manage 16 in 70min, this has clearly become the norm for him at this point.
We should really be considering cashing in on this guy, could easily get 40ish million for him right now.

The frustrating thing is he’s been poor for so long consistently, there’s no doubt he’s not good enough. And it’s not his footballing ability that keeps him around. The club spent huge on his contract and gambled on him

You actually have to try to move him now even if it’s loan with obligation. He has 2 years left on his deal. And if he stays and has another terrible season which he will most likely will. The club will still extend his contract just to protect his value which is crazy

There reason why teams not interested in him and his big salary make is impossible.

Not talking about salary but he limited winter that his game gone stale last two seasons and no signs of improvement.

He going nowhere so you only hope he improve

The biggest problem I have with Nelli is that I like him. I only see his good moments and quickly forget the bad ones. In fact, my situation is so bad that I hardly notice any difference between him and Saka, and then I wonder why people criticize Nelli but not Saka. Luckily, I don’t get to decide anything.

I think it would be fair to treat Saka like a man now, not just as our kid. Saka is a fantastic player, but he hasn’t been the same since his injury. His decisions lack creativity, and like you said, he’s also slowed down. The fact that all the criticism is aimed at Nelli and Kai is actually a bit unfair. Saka hasn’t shown his best either.

Exactly, i think Saka is great but not untouchable.

Martinelli outwide only works if you have a dribbling/technical 9 like G Jesus. Someone fluid enough to pop up and create on both flanks.
I insist that he should've been converted to a CF with us spending big on a LW. This should have happened 2-3 seasons ago.
Arteta is just making life hard for this guy. Wenger wouldn't even have waited 2 seasons before trying him out as a 9.

Well he got 15 premier league goals in 2023 but with arteta playing with a inverted LB and 80% of the play starting from the right side has contributed to his numbers getting low and he has also regressed a bit..But People make it sound like he is absolutely useless and put the blame on him whenever we lose is pathetic.I ll give Martenelli one more year before thinking about moving him on.Got a feeling he ll explode this year with our attack getting revamped and competition for places.

22/23: 15 goals and 6 assists in 36 PL games (2805 minutes)
23/24: 6 goals and 4 assists in 35 PL games (2029 minutes)
24/25: 8 goals and 4 assists in 33 PL games (2299 minutes)

For two seasons now he's producing Everton level stats. He is absolutely useless. Do we want to win the PL this year? If so, you can't be starting Martinelli (or Trossard for that matter) as a LW. He won't explode, he runs with the ball with his head down, that's not something you can teach a player.

I don't blame him when we lose. I blame Arsenal and Arteta for giving a mediocre player so much time, when we should have someone like Saka on the left wing too. Dowman has played a few games now and does more than Martinelli has done in two years now. And for some reason it's the system's fault, even though a effing 15 year old can play proper football.

You can give him one more year. Bookmark this, he will be **** another year and we'll be having the same discussion next year. 'Oh but he does so many things defensively and our left hand side doesn't help him out.' He can't beat a fridge like Maguire in a 1 v 1 and his decision making is crap.

People always comes with excuses about him, first it was because Xhaka left, then it was because Jesus got injured, now it's on Arteta and his system. The guy has always relied on pace to get separation because his technical ability has always been ****. Now that he's lost a yard he can't do anything, he's useless and he knows it. Guy should be on the bench.

i saw saka a lot times when 1 vs 1 situation against defender in last 2 season and he can barely dribble past defender and he look like lose his pace in last 2 season

i more trust dowman to dribble past defender when 1 vs 1 situation or 2 vs 1 situation against defender

His take on % success is fine - it’s 46% vs Doku at 53% which I think is the highest in the prem but I’m not sure.

Martinelli is 30% for reference 💀

His head and literally all of his body weight in above and ahead of the ball here. Makes it impossible to dribble or create any separation for himself.

It’s a fundamental technical flaw in his game that is impossible to fix at this stage.

Brazilian Dirk Kuyt.
Compare it to Eze (or any great dribbler) who tends to keeps the ball quite central on top of being comfortable manipulating it with either foot. Makes it impossible for defenders to know which foot he’s going to touch the ball with and his neutral body position means he can go left or right.

Like you said a lot of this stuff is innate and can’t really be coached otherwise everyone would be a great dribbler.

Nelli has had the same flaws his whole career, credit to him for hitting 15 league goals back when he did but it’s always been pretty clear to me that he was never going to be a top winger due to the lack of fundamentals in his game. It’s something that anyone who has coached/played can see imo.

The true do or die season for him.

Love the guy to bits, but he really needs to step up. Excuses about tactics / teammates are all used up at this point.

It was a unique moment, a football fairytale. Was there anyone left who still believed I could give that kind of performance? Probably only Arsène Wenger.
