Gabriel Martinelli: The Grift Of The Gab

Why does he start over Trossard? Even though Trossard is streaky he's always better than Martinelli.
Yeah I think Trossard should clearly be first choice, even off-form.

Nelli just makes too many critical mistakes to be trusted to play more than 30 mins a game imo.

Never thought I'd see a player more frustrating than Walcott but we got it in Martinelli.

If the choice is between sh*t Hazard or sh*t Walcott you gotta go with Hazard.

You score ridiculous goals then spend 8-9 matches reminding us of how idiotic you are going forward against low blocks. They tried to sell this guy in the summer but he didn't wanna go. He got benched and Mikel throws shade at his misses. Let's see ... This guy off the bench or teams that have more of the ball is a better option but these matches he's so bad

He's not a kid anymore. There is no point in hoping that he can learn to do basic things at this stage. There is a point in your development where if you aren't doing it yet, you're never going to and he's there.

That passage of play where he failed to get the ball into the box to a wide open player because he made the decision to cross which was the only correct decision after taking 2 stupid touches that he shouldn't have perfectly sums him up as a player.

Twice in a week he has had chances to help secure 3 points and let himself and the team down by not understanding how to do that. He has done this every year we've been in a title race.

If Dowman got the ball where he got it today, I'm 100% sure at 16 that he finds the cross when it should be played. It's not about singling him out as the only problem because he's not. Arteta is way above him on the blame list but he is very much the poster child for why this group hasn't won anything and might not because the decision making and execution of simple things becomes impossible with any expectation or pressure present.

Don't you think his technical ability is superior to Martinelli's?

It's pretty similar. Martinelli is underrated in terms of technical ability, his problems are primarily between his ears.

What do you reckon his potential ceiling is?

Hard to say, wouldn't surprise me if he became a fringe CL level player in the future but I could also see him have a pretty average PL career.

Also would you say that he's nearing Olise's level while he was at Palace?

If you're talking about Olise in 23/24, absolutely not. He was world class at that point, which is why Bayern snapped him up.

Olise is also a proper playmaker, just a completely different profile.

Watching this guy is just depressing . Has just been steadily deteriorating for the last 3 years. Cost us two games in a row.
No he didnt. We handedly deserved to drop points today. We're not gonna scapegoat single players after the squad put in that performance. Our ****ing best player was our LB whos on ****ing loan ffs. Everyone cost us this game. Arteta cost us this game.

It’s what makes him so frustrating as a player but I think it’s also what puts a clear ceiling on him.

There’s a reason why he kept getting, then failing trials at the European clubs. There’s a reason why they wouldn’t even take a chance on him as a young prospect…

I will always bring this up remember when clowns on here were comparing him to R9. Complete lack of Football IQ and heretical views

Fair to say everyone has given up this guy now?

He’s had long enough to improve or find his old form. I don’t think he deserves another season. He’s cost us games.
