Yeah, interesting that Ancelotti had Martinelli play a kind of hybrid Left 8 CF position to keep the room for Vini and provide some movement ahead of him.

We can keep Martinelli, his value now will go right up. We get Vini from Real, our LW will be fine, Martinelli obviously on the bench but then you've still got this guy to come on. Ancelloti even said this guy can play a #8 role & he knows it.

The way I’m seeing fans mainly on X wanting to keep him:

We’ve been down this road before.

Thing is as a CF 9 goals and 2 assists in 19 appearances
Just in the PL he is 2 goals in 4

He obviously isn't working as a touchline winger but Don Carlo moving him centrally and now he's a WC Hero

I see no problem with giving Martinelli another year or 2, we sign a big name LW this window, Martinelli can still stay as backup & come on with top pace if need be, finishes with great aplomb & calmness whenever aswell. We'll probably get even more value out of him in another few seasons. Trosaards value I doubt will go up anymore unfortunately.

Sometimes you all have to ask yourselves these questions - does he fit in the system Arteta implements as a CF? We’ve seen people have doubts about Julianne Alvarez playing as a focal point in our system, so where does that leave Nelli when the ball is tossed in the area and he’s expected to bring it down + link up with our 10 or wide players? He’ll have the same issues as Gyok as he lacks in technical ability and physically he’d struggle and be isolated against a CB pairing in the PL.

Not even trying to sound controversial but he has a better chance looking half useful if we convert him as RB than a CF but we shouldn’t be reinventing the wheel, just get rid and act like a serious club.
