Gabriel Martinelli: The Grift Of The Gab

Nothing Wrong With Me
Me coming in here to celebrate him for one of the biggest goals of his life just to see talks of “I don’t mind keeping him for a year or two”

And that’s what makes him such a frustrating player. He has these moments for Arsenal and Brazil. His pace is such that he gets chances others don’t get. Then there’s the other side of his game when we’re all shouting “stop looking at the fvcking ground” 😀 Taking his age into account, I would keep him, but not as a winger.

The worst part it’s a mixture of people genuinely falling for it + @Uncle Macho and others who are pushing an Arteta can’t coach attackers agenda.

The two are combining and I don’t like it 😭

Martinelli has run his course at Arsenal, but regardless the players you want to see here simply ain’t joining no matter what you say.

You are better off supporting Martinelli and hoping he realises his much touted potential somewhat.

You never really see him in those positions for Arsenal do you? That was a pre Arteta types he scoring.

I like the guy but for a decent fee you let him move on.

He's played well as an impact sub for Brazil this tournament but you can't judge players on their WC form, good or bad.

He's stagnated at Arsenal, a change of scenery would probably be good for him, as long as we get an acceptable fee.

For all the banter he gets... imagine he ends the season as a World Champion and Premiership winner

Sometimes you all have to ask yourselves these questions - does he fit in the system Arteta implements as a CF? We’ve seen people have doubts about Julianne Alvarez playing as a focal point in our system, so where does that leave Nelli when the ball is tossed in the area and he’s expected to bring it down + link up with our 10 or wide players? He’ll have the same issues as Gyok as he lacks in technical ability and physically he’d struggle and be isolated against a CB pairing in the PL.

Not even trying to sound controversial but he has a better chance looking half useful if we convert him as RB than a CF but we shouldn’t be reinventing the wheel, just get rid and act like a serious club.
He looked much better when the wingers had space and licence to move centrally with the CF dropping deep and the players in midfield and fullback moving the ball vertically at pace into space as their first action when they got the ball.

Now there's no space in behind as we play far more laterally with Rice, Zubi, Timber and Hincapie all being downgrades at passing quickly through the lines, add the fact that opponents now park the bus, so there's no space to run in behind and move centrally where he thrives.

He doesn't suit the players behind him anymore. but that's not really an indictment of him but rather that being isolated on the flank isn't where he broke out as a great talent and excelled.

Gyokeres has experienced very similar issues. That's why I am keen on Bruno who can pass vertically from deep and play through passes in behind. We just don't have that passing range in midfield anymore and players who excel in space are looking worse for it.

Still a useful squad option, with some qualities we lack elsewhere. Saved us a couple of times last season. Problem is he gets too much responsibility at times, especially when paired with Gyok/Hincapie.
Not against selling him for a decent offer, but no need to give him away for peanuts while overpaying for someone slightly better.

If some other lw had scored his winner, there'd have been posts saying "imagine martinelli in this scenario 😭"

Anyways agree with this stance as I don't see us getting 2 LW:

Arsenal Quotes

This is a big moment of happiness...we waited a long time for this and the happiness is linked sometimes with the suffering, and the time that you have to wait....this was more important than all the other (trophies) we have twice won the double, but were not under pressure then like we were today.
