Gabriel Martinelli: Top Dog On The Wing

It’s not even a playing LW or CF, it’s the speed of the attack. When is the last time we saw quick one touch combinations like for his goal? Every single player, except maybe Havertz takes about 6 touches too many atm.

Yeah not much disagreement from me here, our style of play is a lot more methodical nowadays. But Martinelli can still be effective through the middle for us.

I think of some of the positions Nketiah receives the ball in for us and can’t help but feel Martinelli could cause problems. Especially when leading a breakaway.

Our whole game is based on getting two wingers 1v1 against the fullback as much as possible, which is why I never get the calls to move Saka and Martinelli out of position. They’re in the two most attacking positions in our system.

You guys really think they’ll be better centrally where they have to do more donkey work defensively and concentrate more on stuff like build up?
Yes every manager in league has figured that out and is doubling our wingers. I don’t want Martinelli’s position changed it might be nice if Arteta didn’t leave wingers in same exact position be doubled. He needs to bring the wingers in switch with striker. The fact that everyone knows our game plan, and Mik rigidly repeats the same patterns; and we struggle to create anything if wingers are neutralized is not a good thing

Saka and Martinelli do a ton of donkey work on the wings tho, what's the difference? The reason you don't see White or Zinchenko in 2 v 1 situations all that often is because of the unfashionable donkey work these two do.

Central midfield/centre forward is completely different to our wide, there is a far great emphasis on winning 1v1s physical battles, staying compact defensively ect. Moving a wide player central really isn’t as simple as some on here like to make out, which is the reason it rarely happens.

Trossard - Martinelli - Saka feels more chaotic and dangerous than Martinelli - Nketiah - Saka
You're right and they can all interchange and play across the front line with varying degrees of efficiency. They all have in common an ability to carry the ball/push the opponent back and score when expected. Nketiah is less able on both counts.

Why do Arsenal fans not understand that opposition managers get to use tactics too.
Because I am convinced our manager can’t even spell tactics, so it is an alien concept to Arsenal fans. Managers making effective tactical in match adjustments; after 4 years it is hard to remember what it feels like.

We need Martinelli in goal scoring positions. He is the most natural and instinctive finisher at the club.

But… we don’t need Martinelli through the middle to see the best of him. We just need him to be given the freedom again to make those darting runs inside, and a competent, creative midfield that can spot and feed those runs.

The horror that is visited on me every time I see him pinned on the wing like a fkn training cone while the opposition regroup around him is unspeakable. I can but pray for better days.

We all know how fickle this fan base is when it comes to players. Few more months of this static chess move style nonsense that completely erases Martinelli’s strengths and they will turn on him en masse.

And that would be a crime. A crime against me personally, against the player, against football and against humanity.

I can’t wait.
It’s all coaching. Arteta is coaching against their instincts. I think the team is very happy with the results, but I also think these young lads are not convinced by the football. I’ll even go as far as to state I believe Arteta has put some kind of requirement they don’t attack their man or even with one-two’s before the whole team is in the positions he wants them.

Bring back two up top - chuck him up front.
Leave the formation as it is - keep him where he is.
Simple.

It was mentioned that Brazil aren’t the same as they once were, but it is still Brazil. Getting on the score sheet for them isn’t going to hurt Martinelli’s confidence.

there are more to playing a CF than just physical battle with DF

I feel strikers are kind of factory manufactured now because of the emphasis on all round plays, hence I understand where your PoV comes from but there are great strikers who doesn't have great physical attribute, relying on acceleration, speed and positioning to escape DFs.

i.e Michael Owen and Filipo Inzhaghi

Ye spot on this is what I meant about seeing Nelli wait with the ball while the opposition regroups. Feels like what Tets really cares about this season is making sure our defensive shape is unbroken. Last season the football was very different in a way that cannot be explained by just change in personnel.

Could be that he wants us to get to the final furlong before unleashing the dogs of war but idk.

Of course there is, but playing as a 9 is definitely a lot more physical than playing out wide.

Brazil have been so bad these past 15 years, that they ruined what should have been a massive for goal for Gabby by losing.

****s.

It's a shame his head was planted to the ground when he could have looked up for that 1v1 shot he missed vs Martinez, fine margins and he failed in that, his decision making skills this season has regressed heavily since last season.

Gotta bury this Gabi 😩

Still a great performance from him though. Just watched the highlights. The man just needs to get his head up. Honestly, getting his head up would change his ****ing life.

Jesus turned that absolute thug Romero inside out for this chance too, shame Gabby sometimes plays like his meme and would rather die than look up sometimes ffs 😅
