Gabriel Martinelli: Dogged and Determined

Yeah first goal is what he’s been doing years. Our second goal is what we need to see more from, getting his head up and making the right decision. He’s unplayable if he can start doing that regularly.

The only other thing he needs to work on is getting better outcomes when defenders show him on the outside, could have assisted Jesus if he crossed well on his left foot. Between him Saka and Saliba I genuinely don’t know who’s our best young player.

Think Gabi has the highest ceiling due to the goalscoring potential and lightning pace.

You’re nitpicking. The guys a top talent who just roasted Trent in a famous win.

Enjoy it.

Martinelli is a different type of player. Should call him up as a backup 100%. If things don't go well Vini goes offline but this guy can give that extra electricity.
Doesn’t Neymar start on the left too. Love my boy Martinelli but he’s holding the bench. He’s a better option than Raphina and Richarlison though.

His pace and aggressive play create and open space for others. He creates havoc. It’s so important to have pace as wide man in this league. Look at sancho, everything stops when he has the ball cause he has no pace

Still think he has another level or two to his game. You can just see that he is waiting to explode. Maybe not the most technically secure player, but he is a game changer. Work rate, dribbling, quickness and stamina. His finishing should only get better, that looked like his best attribute in his first season here under Emery.

This match was the highlight of his career so far, imo. Perhaps it'll go down as the game where he solidified himself as a full-fledged star rather than a highly-rated prospect, too.

Guy's a behemoth in the counter, and constantly creates threats if the defense gives him some space to operate in. Love how direct he plays, you need players like this in a possession football side to give you that edge.

Trent was 100% happy he had to get subbed today, like Varane v City, he was shook every time he ran at him.

Saka went from being our best attacker last season, to 3rd best this season...that's amazing for us.

Tite seem's to have been experimenting in the recent friendlies, so he's probably still deciding on what will work best. Think Neymar's been played as a 10, as an 8ish, and up front in various roles.

Raphinha mainly plays on the right, and is a shoe-in for the squad, most likely being the only other lock as a starter alongside Neymar in attack atm. Richarlison seems to produce the goods for Brazil as well tbf. Rodrygo has the Madrid buff, and Antony is another left-footer which gives him an advantage.

It's a 26-man squad this season, though, so hopefully Martinelli gets a spot (wouldn't be burnt out either when he returns, since he'd be coming off the bench if he plays, but it'd probably boost his morale like crazy). If he doesn't get in, it's a testament to the strength of the Brazil attack, not his lack of performance.

To be fair to Saka, he commands a ton of attention from the defense which opens up space for Martinelli. Now that Martinelli is also producing at a high rate, defenses will look to load up on him as well. Next step for him is to further improve his link up game to exploit this. With Saka and Martinelli both commanding attention and being able to exploit it in tandem, we'll be a monster attacking side.
