Gabriel Martinelli: Dogged and Determined

Loved Martinelli’s performance. Best in the World Cup so far by a wide player in terms of control at pace and beating players. His pace is absolutely frightening. Really unlucky not to score

Should be starting for Brazil. If not now, he will be soon enough.

With Jesus out of the World Cup he might be the backup striker? How good is that Pedro guy?

That's, like, your opinion, man.

It's Pedro over him.

No talk of it yet, but with Telles out of the world cup, Tite might just move to a three at the back formation.

Neymar is only back past the round of 16, so that means we'll not see that opening game formation until then.

Given how he pulled back Martinelli back to midfield, there is a chance that he plays there until or if Alex Sandro comes back.

What a performance by Martinelli, honestly though, how did Brazil lose that? They've got to realise despite Brazils loss, Martinelli was without a doubt the MOTM.

Off topic, but isn’t there a 16 year old striker in Brazil who is supposed to be the next Pele?

Good to see him be one of the first subs today, moved up the pecking order deservedly due to his performances...would love to see him get a goal at some point this World Cup too.

Shame Vinicius Junior exists, Martinelli have no real chance to start despite his talent sadly...same age as Gabby too 😅

Only hope is if he develops into a CF in the future at some point.

Can't say he moved up the pecking order in a match where Dani Alves and Weverton were subbed on

Vini is a year older, brilliant player
We'll have to see how gabi develops though, he's already a late bloomer as elite talents go, so he may still surprise us all

I think Martinelli is already ahead of Vinicius Jr in terms of beating defenders - in fact Vinicius Jr often loses the ball when he tries to beat players, though he does open up space to cross the ball well without beating his man. Martinelli's shooting needs to improve and his final ball, but that will come.
Very little in it.
