Why has Nathan Butler been a player on the bench for ages but only got 1 opportunity which ironically was the last minute? I thought the game against Girona (despite not what I was hoping it would be, much more of a walkover) would have been the perfect time to start him? Arteta I doubt has much faith in our academy produts unfortunately.

Probably because Butler is a guy who will do well to even make it in the Championship

Usually, when a batch of young talent break through into the first team, they've won a preceding Youth Cup to cement their capabilities. How the hell did we lose 5-1 to West Ham in the final?

In light of the great performances and goals by both MLS and Nwaneri yesterday, I wondered when were they first got mentioned here in A-M, and it didn't disappoint. :)

Today Jeorge Bird has done in interesting article of two bright prospects Ethan Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly u14s who have been regulars at u16 level and Chelsea and United have been on their case recently. I've watched Lewis Skelly a little bit and he is the heir to Bandeira and Musah. Nwaneri has just turned 14 so he must be a crazy talent to play at u16 level. It must be an Azeez Musah part 2 although Lewis-Skelly (Sep 06) and Nwaneri (Mar 07). They played in a global u12 tournament sometime back with the likes of Barcelona and Lewis Skelly was the best player in the tournament.

I just read that. Looks like another Azeez/Musah situation where 2 midfielders are on the come-up early on. Very intriguing situation, hopefully we're able to keep hold of them. Interesting that Jeorge Bird has made an article about them already - he usually holds off until they start to make in-roads towards U18 contention, so these 2 must be making a LOT of noise right now. Intriguing.

Also, @A_G @db10_therza @Macho @celestis @RandomHero84 etc...we are here here in A-M, before they were even born

MLS and Nwaneri made a big difference yesterday. Like Saka they could make a difference to the England national team future too.

Also like Saka, MLS loves his schoolwork. These are well grounded kids. Mertersaker is doing a sterling job.

MLS:
"Anyway, I loved school – I loved Spanish and English the most. I’ve always enjoyed writing. I like writing essays because I like to articulate myself, it’s something I’m really big on. I journal as well, which is important for me.”

Yeah it’s great but we need to ban Hale Enders learning Spanish fr

Chido is MLS or Nwaneri level talent? I wonder what we lost.
It's too early to say. In younger levels, some develop faster, and sometimes there are those who are simply too dominant in that age group. Chido won't get anywhere near as much time in adult games, so it all depends on how he continues to develop.

Don't think he's quite as good as they are but he's still very talented and a very annoying loss. Don't think even United know what they have with him.

The offset of that is Andre Harriman-Annous having a breakout season in his first scholar year. Often played wide of Chido and laid on a lot of his goals (as did Dowman), Annous has basically become the main CF at U18 level following a growth spurt that's taken him to 6'1. Not quite as big as Chido but hes strong, a powerful runner with the technique of a #10 and he's a surprisingly adept goalscorer himself. Has already played U21s this season and scored for them. He plays upfront and on the wing. I'd say his only weakness is that he sometimes plays on the periphery of games despite his ability on the ball but when he's involved he's a player. Just needs to impose himself on games more. Has everything needed to do so, the next step in his development.

@Afro Mugo gets the scoops before I do more time. He's the one who put me on to the newer batch like Brando Bailey-Joseph and Louis Zecevic-John.

But I do remember this time, it was shocking to see how good they were at 14/15, just like with Dowman.

You mentioned Max Dowman several times as a generational talent, and few videos confirm that he is levels above his age groups.

What can the club do to lock him with us, or to prevent other teams from taking him before he reaches age of 18 for professional contract?

Chido is more of a goals only killer, but doesn't use his team-mates particularly well. Annous is a better alround player, but isn't as likely to be where goals are scored. I suspect in time Chido will regeret his decision, or at least question it (hard to regret 30k a week at 17!), because Utd are almost certainly going to throw money at CF again in the summer, and have a number of good attacking players in their age groups, whereas we literally have all our strikers bar Havertz injured or leaving. Of course we are likely to go big at CF, but its likely any deal we do today is shorter term, or someone multipositional like Tel on loan. Agree re Annous drifting in and out, but at least he has the skillset to be more involved.

Yeah MLS & Nwaneri were always well ahead of their peers, and Dowman is even more so. He looks like a ringer in the u18s, even though he's only just 15. What will be interesting with him is how he continues to develop physically - at the moment he has the physicality to be fine playing up the age groups, but if he can get stronger and quicker still, he'll almost certainly get minutes next season.

17 not 18. We can get him to agree to a pre-professional contract next year I think. Until then its all about pathway, opportunities to train with the u23s and 1st team, and show him the long term plan.

My dark horse from the academy is Dan Casey. Very interesting midfield player. Lampard-like in a lot of his qualities and can certainly finish when he gets in and around the area. Going under the radar for the Under 18’s. Hope he gets into a few of the match day squads.

In terms of forwards, had high hopes of Osman Kamara but he has stalled a bit (injuries). Brandon Bailey-Joseph and Annous are who I’m both looking at especially the former

Think he's got really good technical quality and is definitely one to watch aswell. Seems to always come up with the important goals. He's a bit like Jimi Gower IMO but think he has a bit more oomph about his game.

Definitely agree on Bailey-Joseph and Annous. I'd add Zecevic-John to that mix simply because he's such a dangerous player on his day with his pace, directness and movement.

Maldini Kacurri starts for Bromley tonight away at Salford. He lines up alongside Carl Jenkinson in a funny twist of fate. Come on Maldini, have a blinder son and ruin that **** Gary Neville's week.

Maldini was great for about an hour, then he tired. He was turned for the first Salford goal, and then beaten in the air for the second. Although the second wasn't his man that scored it, he tried to help out but just wasn't there in time. Subbed shortly after.

Yeah this bloke is definitely not making the first team, Great name though

I do find it incredible how we have not had a single centre half come through at the club since Adams and Keown 40 years ago
