Not that connected with the wider national football opinion anymore but years ago it was viewed favorably, people believe we raise our level to match our opponent so playing against good teams will make us a better national team. I used to believe it too but not sure anymore with how many other issues we have.

I'd still be generally in favor of it considering WC qualification is way easier with 48/64 teams, not as much of a risk anymore and you're at least getting more entertaining qualifiers and our clubs back in Libertadores
