Yup. But the thing is Ericsson doesn't want to take the risk. He's a scared, defensive manager. One goal and defend. He has to remember he's not in Italy any more.

Thing is, Greece did the same thing. Against attacking teams like France, Czech Republic and Portugal. Otto got them working harder and they had more desire and comittment. England panic and end up doing stupid things like when they lost 2-1 to France or when they lost a 2-0 lead to Austria the other night. They just don't have the right mental attitude.

You've got to note that the work ethic is not there, so they should play to their stengths. And that is not defensively as G. Neville can't cut it, and they don't have any defensive midfielder of note wheras Greece had 2 or 3 IIRC and only played with one striker, Charisteas I think it was. Bar Butt no-one in the england team can do a solid job being a defensive midfielder.

Some may say Gerrard. Yes he can tackle, but his positioning play leaves someti hing to be desired, and he often finds himself in situation where ha has to make a crucial tackle. A specialist defensive midfielder would not have been in this position in the first place.

As for Lampard or Becks, no way. Butt is the only option for me, although he struggles to get into the team. IMO they need him.

They need to drop Becks and put on SWP. Drop Neville and put on Johnson, and drop Owen and Put on Defoe. I also feel he should have more faith in Robinson and give him a chance ahead of James.

And put Gareth Barry or maybe in the future Ryan Smith in left midfield as Bridge, Lampard, Gerrard, and Dyer can't cut it there. They rely on a crossing game so in essence have a left footer as their left midfielder. Arsenal rely less on crosses and more on quick passes and shots cutting infrom the wings so we can get away with a right footed left midfielder. He is also a class above the players Ericsson tried there. So unless Ericsson gets this sorted he will have to settle for mediocrity.

Well, I'm sure England will flounder again soon and Sven will be axed. Lets just wait and see who'll be taking over the helm

I can't see Sven staying on for too much longer, the team is going stale and he's not willing to shake things up. I'm not sure letting Heskey go can be considered shaking things up....

Sven and his love for Becks:

'I wouldn't consider dropping him for tomorrow, I can't agree he played badly,' Eriksson said. 'I don't know how many times he switched play for us from right to left, for example.'

My goodness! Playing well constitutes switching play from right to left! Thank goodness Sven told us.

Its ridiculous the amount of stcik sven gets. If you look at his compeitive match record its pretty damn good. I wish he would be more confident with his team selections though.

He deserves all the stick he gets. His team selections are a joke and his tactics against decent teams make games really tedious to watch. That's what happens when you put a serie A manager in charge. Defending a one goal lead against Portugal and France? Dumb as ****. Second half performances are consistently poor which was evident during the limp surrender to Brazil. Sure he has done ok in qualifying for tournaments but the number of crap wins against poor teams and shoddy draws say it all. He doesn't get the best out of the players, he is too quiet and never can motivate them when needed. I'm also a firm believer in selections being based on club form but he always sticks to the same players regardless. Nobody is fighting for their place, the current lot realise their names are already penned in. When a manager is being paid millions a year, I would demand more than 'half decent'.

i think he's crap manager, David James has been known to make really stupid mistakes and even when he did he still plays him, David Beckham is absolute crap, he isn't as good as he use to be and never will, what does sven do, make him captain of England!!! if u think about it England have a really good squad but sven has achieved anything, not even a final appearance in a majour competition.

Terry, Campbell, Cole, Johnson, Lampard, j.Cole, Gerrard, Rooney, Smith, Owen, Wright-Philips and alot more but what has achieved with these players? nothing!
