Don't know why both things can't be true.

He prefers playing deeper, but his best period here was further up the pitch. Over three managers tried to fit him in deep positions and he got exposed in all of them.

He had some shockers and red cards but he was never as bad as made out really. He's not a generational talent who could carry this team to CL singlehandedly or anything like that but that doesn't mean he was awful the entire time.
