Granit Xhaka: Managers Love Him!

Strange match from Xhaka. Was excellent in places and not great in others. All of his good qualities on show but all of his negatives as well. Kept the ball well but was too safe with it at times. Made some excellent passes but he done them so slowly Excellent defending in places but then gives away some silly free kicks. I was screaming at him at some moments and then singing his praises the next.

He had some good moments especially defensively but was so slow passing forward and offered little outlet to the CB's until Partey came on. It was a really mixed bag. Him and Partey starting together on Monday will be interesting

The main reason for the majority of CP counter-attacks. Hard to praise him for his defensive contribution when it was his fault anyway.

In 2nd half he was rushing things like many of the players alot of poor passing still w good performance defensively imo in 2nd half when crystal Palace counter and he cleared the cross it was important and at 1st half against he saved us from conceding.

Zaha was in Xhaka’s pocket. 4 or 5 insanely well timed goal saving tackles I saw!
Any one of those tackles mistimed and we’d be screaming.

This was like a good Coquelin performance. Lots of big slide tackles thst make you feel nervous but were all timed brilliantly and some questionable passing. Despite this, he left much to be desired on the ball. Maybe because ESR struggled to make himself available and there was no Tierney so a lot of passing options weren't there. Overall good performance and the MOTM.

He and ceballos were both decent today. Our attacking outlets were piss poor. Particularly the fullbacks and amn.

I think we're missing the point here.

It is a fundamental issue that we rely on the fullback positions to be the driving force of our attacks and absolve midfield of any responsibility for both creating chances and scoring goals.

You will NEVER see a team finish in the top 2 positions of any league without a dynamic/fluid midfield where a CM can provide a 15-20 G/A contribution. Partey won't be that guy either.

The reason the likes of Xhaka and Elneny get so much game time is they are rewarded for simply distributing the ball between centre backs and full backs for 90 minutes in possession, and marking space. Even at the expense of finding our attackers early, in space.

Everything else is down to our full backs. That's why we have the worst attacking stats in the league and the 5th highest European goalscorer since 2015 playing like Jozy Altidore.

Wait till his fanboys come up with stats on number of forward passes he made. We forgot how to attack through the middle ever since Cazorla left. Apparently playing the ball to the full back day in and day out is considered a glorious attacking move. Probably years of watching Xhaka and the other trash we signed as CM reduced our standards and people just forgot what a good midfield looks like. No wonder we have settled down as a mid-table team.

Under Emery Xhaka passed through the middle to find Özil.
Now he looks for the fullback by instruction. It’s the tactics. He sits deep and tries to find the fullbacks when in space. He did it many times yesterday but they made nothing of it. He was also finding Pepe when be came on. These are all passes into advanced positions near and around the opponent’s box. Those passes are difficult to do, he doesn’t get the credit.

Social media literally going crazy praising Xhaka for a monster of a performance.

It's literally what a central midfielder should be doing every single game. That thing called tackling.

Imagine if twitter was around for literally any of Vieira's performances for us, the admin would probably have to be taken to a hospital

This was like a good Coquelin performance.

Granit wishes!
