A football squad is a lot more than one player. And no top 4 in all that time
Yup. Arteta (for better or worse) ain’t really the type of manager that changes his system to fit the players. He’d rather change his players to fit his system…There’s no truth to the narrative going round that he is playing as an 8 to minimise his weakness. He always did a fantastic job as a 6 in a double pivot and always had, and that’s the position he plays for Switzerland and used to play for Gladbach. But our attack wasn’t doing too well at the time. He’s now playing as an 8 (a unique, unconventional 8 that I haven’t yet fully understood) due to his supreme quality and how much he can help the attack to get us playing free flowing football. Nothing to do with his weaknesses or anything.
Yet you say the team cant do without one playerA football squad is a lot more than one player.
I'm happy with Xhaka the player. Still think he can be improved upon but that's probably for further down the line and he's shown improvement in this more advanced role.
For me to fully get behind him though I need one season without multiple outrageous errors / losing his cool.
Honestly, I'm not sure at his age he's going to be able to fundamentally change his temperament.
Plenty of water under the bridge that I'm willing to let go with him and I'm happy that as a senior player he's in some kind of leadership role but I'd never accept him being captain again and tbh I don't think it would do him any good being put in that position either.
How about last season?
Just because he lost his head one time against Burnley you think he’s always done it?
Weston Mckinnie 30-35 million from Juve would be a massive upgrade youth wise, versatility, speed wise and will chip in with more goals. Plus can play as fullback, wingback, winger and number 8.list the players, please.
He also said he was surprised when he purchased Xhaka that Xhaka couldn’t tackle. I am not going to scapegoat the guy for all our ills but seriously he isn’t good enough, he has his qualities and for a different league or different club he could be fantastic he struggles with the press and pace of game against the better teams.@Makingtrax remember when Wenger said Granit was box to box and people laughed . Big Weng done it again .
If it doesn't rear it's head on more than multiple occasions, even in this new role, I'll be astonished. Unless he takes to it like even his biggest fans thought he couldn't, it will be a complete waste and on the managers head. Its funny because 2 games in, Xhaka is the messiah but the guy who's steering him is still an idiot. He also said he was surprised when he purchased Xhaka that Xhaka couldn’t tackle. It’s just a matter of time that our opponents will effectively exploit his weaknesses. If I was opposing manager I would trigger my press off of every time Xhaka gets ball under pressure then I would say at the moment you all close down tight both on him and his easier outletIf it doesn't rear it's head on more than multiple occasions, even in this new role, I'll be astonished. That'll probably be harder to execute if he's supposedly on the move more now (I don't know his ground covered stats now compared to the average in his old role) . But yeah, if you're going to get change out of him, force him to pass first time and cut off avenues. Oh, just 15 seconds into the video here!
