Was looking up the albania - serbia clash during their game and found this video

Not surprised at all, the badboyism is in the family

I just don't get what he's good at. He has no pace, his passing and distribution is not up to the mark, he makes constant mistakes and he can't dribble forward or create, his long shot is decent but not fantastic and the few times he does pings balls around happen too rarely to be celebrated.

Will Xhaka going make us a top 4 team? No, but then Elneny going wouldn't make us a top four team either.

Had we bought Kante instead of Xhaka, we'd be a top 4 team and Arsène would still be here

The likes of Xhaka can't hack it in the Premier League. They don't have the physical quality, and there's a reason we don't see many DLP's in the PL. He can ping a good ball but if he loses it, he can't recover. He has no pace at all. Add to that his rash decision making and general lack of footballing intelligence, I can't see him ever succeed for us. But sure, let's hope he does well next to Partey.

My issue with that is that in the PL your best midfielders are either absolute destroyers like Kante, Gilberto and that ilk, or box to box midfielders like Lampard, Gerrard, Vieira, or creatively amazing and technically brilliant like KDB, Silva, Cazorla.

Xhaka does not fit in any of these categories. He's the sort of player you don't see in the PL and for good reason

This fits the eye test in that he is a very good passer into space. Earlier on in the season, he was definitely passing square or back a lot of the time (whether this is down to instruction, we don't know), however in our recent run of form his passing has been key,

My problem with Xhaka has always been his lack of mobility. If we can find someone who can cover ground quicker whilst also possessing a similar passing range, it's a no brainer in terms of an upgrade. This really should be a key priority if we are to go up a level.
It should definitely be but some here are saying things like 'our midfield is not our biggest problem's and would prefer him as a starter. We're not making top 4 with him as a constant.

He has been great in the league recently, our second best player after Saka easily. If Lacazette gets phased out he's our second best player this season.

The problem with that is quite simply that we have gone through this already. It feels like the worse we look on the pitch the more important Xhaka looks in this team, so it's not surprising that at our lowest point in a very long time, he looks like one of the best players in the club.

He has not been "great". He has been completely average.

Yes, and I think the only way Xhaka is getting replaced at this point is if he pushes for a move elsewhere himself (which could well happen given what's gone on).

Arteta loves him, he's only gotten better since Partey has arrived and has only played more. Partey was supposed to replace him according to many on here, but they are first choice when both fit (another thing Xhaka excels at btw). I really don't think the club sees replacing him as any sort of priority right now and are probably more interested in extending his contract.
If we did move him this summer we would get a respectable fee for him. Model pro off the pitch, Captain of his country, hardly ever gets injured , has steadily improved tactically especially when it comes to defending which he was shocking at when he first came.

Dont think it would be a problem.

And Arsenal has been completely below average, no wonder he shines.

The fact that we don't feel confident about replacing him is a testament to how much of a disaster this season is. The excitement of Partey being able to replace him at long last died very quickly, now Xhaka is apparently the best midfield partner for Thomas.

Genuine question here to cause some discussion. If Partey gets the best out of Xhaka, does Xhaka get the best of Partey?

If you rate Xhaka, fair enough.

He was largely poor pre Christmas though. There's no way he's been our second best player this season. Tierney is way ahead of him this season in terms of form. Leno and Holding have also been better.

For Xhaka that is great though...

To be honest, I think he is in good form for his standard and isn't actively hurting the team. Plus he seems like he is well liked by the rest of the team. I hope we ship him off in the summer or at least get a better option to partner with Partey and he becomes more a squad player.

This ****ing guy

Leno is at fault too though. Got immediately closed down, had to do something and couldn't turn.

Prime example of when passing out the back doesn't work. Horrible mistake in either case.

No, xhaka just has to clip it first time on his right to chambers. Training ground stuff. Instead, he takes a touch.

Yeah it’s never his fault....give it a rest already. It’s been five years of the same excuses
