He looked really fast in the training footage. Lost a couple kilos of muscle looking at the footage and pics which is probably the difference.
After his last injury he came back really bulked up and slowed down as a result. Can't wait for late October when he and Tierney are fully fit, they take us a level or two higher.

I just finished watching a you tube compilation of bellerins assists and goals for arsenal. Far out hes a talent in that final third. So fast, and those cutbacks, my God!

Bellerin is made for emery's style of play- it's going to be beautiful to watch

Does look less built than before, hope that’s a conscious decision.

Probably not totally, I think Holding said he lost 7 kilos after the injury. But for a fullback it's not as bad situation, especially if he gets more speed out of it.

He'll need to play two or three U-21s matches before he comes back. So not before the next international break.

I love Bellerin too and we do miss him, but if honesty prevail he also struggle with that lateral passing out the back malarkey, giving the ball away in risky area on occasion.

Heccyy is so woke and hot! Look at his muscles and that build so prominent even in that loose shirt. He must be so strong and hard

It definitely isn't a typical player thread. You are just as likely to read a description of Bellerin's physique and appearance with a strong sexual undertone as you are about his footballing capabilities.
I wish people would stop focusing on his physique and focus on his football which is why he's the best RB in the world!

Yup, definitely the most homoerotic thread on here...

Found this article based on ACL research specialist dr. Tim Hewett’s interview. It talks about NBA players and how their rehabs are rushed and why most of the players are below par in their first season back and why ACL injuries often occur again.

https://heavy.com/sports/2019/09/kl...state-warriors/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

The interesting bit:

If you return that athlete anywhere prior to 12 months, or in that range, the risk is exponentially higher,” Dr. Hewett said. “You decrease your risk for re-injury every month you delay.

and

Your graft is still mush. You are grafting a piece of tendon onto the ACL in that surgery. It takes 18-24 months for a grafted ligament to re-ligamentize, to mature to the point where it is something close to a baseline of where it was before. If you are playing before that, you’re playing on a ligament that’s not done healing.”

So basically dr. Hewett insists an athlete should be rehabing two years before he’s back to his optimal physical condition and ready to play.

In that regard it’s not surprising a lot of footballers are never back to their best after an ACL. Speed and explosion are often diminished and one of the reason is clubs are rushing players back.

We shouldn’t expect Bellerin and Holding to hit the ground running when they come back and I hope fans we’ll show a lot of patience with both of them. They’ll need a lot of time to get back to their best and I hope we won’t overplay them in this crucial period.

Yeah, when it comes to NFL guys who tear ACLs, we're usually saying they are playing back into condition one year after an ACL so by, year two, of recovery, we should expect them to be back to full condition - looking stronger, getting more push, etc. At least this is how we think when it comes to defensive lineman, offensive lineman, etc.

I think ACL recoveries have improved massively in the past 10 years where guys are fully fit much faster than ever before but they are told they can return in 9 months so they do it (obviously to get that money and not sit around if they are competitive by nature).

We should consider the different nature of the sports too. Basketball and American football rely on explosiveness of the joints much more than soccer/footy. I think conditioning the muscles that support the joints would be safer in this sport and result in less danger to tearing the ligament again. Obviously, improvisation/chance happens in all sports and requires a player to over extend unexpectedly if they are caught off guard - he'd have to be mindful of keeping his body in control (keep your knees under your torso more) until he's fully recovered.
