With him, Elneny and Monreal leaving how much have we trimmed off the wage bill with all the other outgoings? Must be about £50m?

Alexis left under a cloud because he was a ****, part of the reason he was bad for the team unit.

He was an incredible talent, but not for the team as a whole. Arsenal should never have bought him or Özil in the first place. Arsenal will not move forward by buying elite players. Real Madrid, Barca, Juventus and Bayern are some of the only teams that can do that because players don't see better clubs to go to.

Man Utd have finally understood this after Di Maria and Alexis failed and Pogba has been a problem for them.

Sky in Italy legend Valentina Fass has just given us an update on the latest news from the Mediterranean...

She said: "Henrikh Mkihtaryan just left the clinic where all Roma players go for their medicals, and he is moving towards the training ground to sign his contract.

We have added wages for Tierney, Chambers (assuming Fulham were paying 100%) Luiz, Ceballos, Pepe & Martinelli. The main thing, apart from Ramsey, is the wages we have saved was on poor players, you don't mind spending it on good players. The deadwood is nearly clear, just Xhaka to go!

Also re wages, there was talk of Auba & Laca signing new contracts, not sure if that was confirmed, if it was then their wages will have increased.

I'm happy for Micki to get this opportunity. Hopefully he can stay healthy and get the regular playing time he needs to return to something resembling the form he displayed in Germany (although he'll never be that again). Despite the ranting and raving of some, Micki actually had some good performances for Arsenal (he had 9 goals and 13 assists in 59 appearances), but was never able to be in the lineup consistently enough to really get it going (although he was fantastic in Europa League after making the move).

Without a doubt Arsenal got the better end of the deal in swapping Alexis for him. Even though his time might be deemed mediocre, he's been miles better than Alexis has been for United and at 1/3 the wages. So I'm glad he was here for awhile and good luck to him in Italy. I could see him doing well there.

Arsenal are not capable of building a team around prima donna players who aren't hungry to better themselves at Arsenal. Both players saw Arsenal as a tep down/stepping stone/pay day. Only now since the catalyst for change have Arsenal started to sort their transfer strategy out and bring in players hungry to prove themselves at Arsenal - Laca, Auba, Torreira, Gunedouzi, Leno, Saliba, Tierney, Pepe....

When Özil was purchased, Arsenal needed a striker. Eriksen was bought from Ajax for £13 million that summer.

Alexis at the very least should have been seen as a transition player for 2 years to make a profit from him and move him on. These are not players to build a team around.

Really, the only two reasons why we won anything under Wenger were because of Alexis and Özil... Also Cazorla.

If you don't want to buy them, we wouldn't have won anything and wouldn't be able to attract anyone

Özil and Sanchez carried us for years. We would have won the league in Özil’s first season if Ramsey and Walcott didn’t go down injured. We also won 3 FA cups with those two as the fulcrum of the team.

Also, Aubameyang was a big money signing and at the time had a reputation as a locker room cancer and diva. So by your logic we should have avoided that transfer.

Elneny and Xhaka seem like great hardworking guys. Problem is both suck. I would take an ultra talented diva over those two all day.

Arsenal have not challenged for the league convincingly in that time, while Leicester won the league.... The FA Cups were good, but the upside of those two players did not offsett the down sides. If they hadn't been signed, Arsenal might have made more important long-term signings, which they are now doing with the likes of Saliba, Torreira, Leno, Tierney, Pepe....
