Don't know why there's so many uproar?

There's a requirement here at Arsenal that we have to sign a keeper that makes a lot of mistakes and direct errors that led to goals.

We signed Runnarsson for that role, then signed Ramsdale, then signed Kepa. Of course we have to sign him to keep up. No big deal tbh

Can be behave like PL Champions just for a bit?
I'm telling you Santi, I have a feeling that these guys don't really know how to transfer window from a position of strength. Nobody at the club has been at the top of the mountain and gone into a transfer window where the only way up is the CL and the plan is to build a dynasty. They may prove me wrong in a crazy two month burst of activity but idk.

Signing players who are genuinely sh*t is an interesting choice. But hey, I agree with the thinking that a team that plays out from the back needs both keeper options to be able to do that otherwise you get the absolute shambles that was the Carabao cup final. Forget Kepa's mistake, that game was lost when City basically dared Kepa to make a a 30 yard pass out of his defence and he refused to for 90 mins.

If the club spent money on this position we'd all be complaining so I have to be fair, I also believe they'd have stuck with Kepa and just played Raya in a final if it was to happen again but Kepa's 5M release clause and his desire to be a no1 has kind of forced our hand here. Maybe they are gearing up for a big summer and want to minimise unnecessary spend but i'll finish as I started...

I remember when he was breaking out as first choice for Leeds, and I was thinking to myself.. damn what a talent. Can't say I've seen him play much unless it's been against us, but he's still quite young for a goalkeeper, but can't say if he's our 2nd choice that I'd feel confident with him between the sticks if Raya isn't available and Kepa moves on.

There's probably a very good keeper in there, and who knows? Maybe a change of culture and enviroment could be good for him, but I don't want Kepa to leave now basically based on all the reports and watching some clips of him to "catch up". He has that blunder-gene no doubt.

I don't think anyone's expecting us to sign a legitimately good goalkeeper to be third choice.

But what you can do is sign a player who is good for the standard expected of a third choice keeper.

Ideally you sign a veteran GK with experience of the PL who is a bit past his prime and a good voice to have around the squad while accepting not playing other then an emergency situation.

Plenty of decent veteran keepers would line up for the chance to be Arsenal's third choice.

There's no excuse for this Meslier nonsense.

3rd choice keepers should either be really young or a veteran because they're not going to get gametime.

Gunnarblog who broke this story claims he’s 3rd choice keeper so we can loan Setford and if Kepa leaves he’d expect us to go get a second choice. He doesn’t believe the club are looking to go into next season with Raya and Meslier.

This is a tick box exercise of a transfer.

This reminds me of the Cedric deal. Released by Southampton for being bad but somehow good enough for us.

I think the 3rd GK storyline is BS. You could promote any young GK for that.

We could have just signed someone like Ortega who contributed heavily to some of Man City’s titles. He is 2nd GK at Forest.

It’s not that hard to find a good GK who lost his spot. There should be a certain standing for playing for the Champions.

You don’t need a good 3rd keeper.

It’s a strange use of resources. Assuming this guy is on decent wages so if we had Raya, #2 and him it likely be £200,000 a week on GK’s. Feels like we could put that money to better use.

You need a 3rd GK though and we want to loan Setford.

Last summer it was Kepa, in 2024 it was Neto, in 2023 it was Raya, in 2022 it was Turner, in 2021 it was Ramsdale, in 2020 it was Runarsson.
Incredible.

What about LW?
