There's a requirement here at Arsenal that we have to sign a keeper that makes a lot of mistakes and direct errors that led to goals.

We signed Runnarsson for that role, then signed Ramsdale, then signed Kepa. Of course we have to sign him to keep up. No big deal tbh

Sommer is excellent GK, he was no 1 in Inter from 2023 to 2026.
I didn't know that he is without contract.

Why didn't we go for him, he is at least 2 levels better than Meslier.

It’s a strange use of resources. Assuming this guy is on decent wages so if we had Raya, #2 and him it likely be £200,000 a week on GK’s. Feels like we could put that money to better use.

Meslier did look a talent when I first saw him. They're probably hoping that our coaching improves him and a year from now we'll be calling him the best ball playing 2nd choice keeper in the league and praising them for getting him for free.

Have no clue but it’s a really baffling decision. I could be wrong but at Sommer’s age, I don’t think he’d mind being able to stay at the top + trying out a different environment in Europe.

Yeah I can’t really see that happening the more likely thing to happen here is that the club will address the back up GK position next summer and he’ll cost us in the cups. I don’t think decent distribution can mask over some basic GK fundamentals.

It should be a no brainer on the last two. Their age also doesn’t play any factor as they’d be 3rd choice, so who cares if he’s in his mid 30s
This genuinely feels like we’re going to see Kepa leave and we’ll get some bullshit about “ how impressed they’ve been with Mesliers attitude and performances in training and have promoted him to 2nd choice “

Age doesn’t play a factor, Tom Heaton is Uniteds 3rd choice and has barely a minute of playing time in all the years he’s been there.
There’s literally no need to go out and sign a 3rd choice, 26 year old keeper. For all the minutes Setford got last season we could send him on loan and replace him in the squad with another highly rated academy keeper.
Meslier has been brought in the very possible event that Kepa leaves.

Our 3rd choice has been a kid for the last few years. Okonkwo, Hein and Setford have all held that role.
