Is Robert Lewandowski the most underrated player of all time?

His career strike avg is around 4 goals in 5. He averages an assist every 4 matches. Along with Messi and Ronaldo he has played in top leagues and is in the rarefied air of players averaging over a G/A a game. He isn’t a Haaland type Fox in the box. He creates, he has great link up play, dummy runs, presses the ball. He has 92 champions league goals. By rights he should be considered the greatest 9 by CV in history. And has won everything in club football. Of Messi’s 8 Ballon D’ors one rightfully belongs to him.

To this day the most amazing thing i ever saw in football was his 5 goal sub performance in a half of football. You can’t even say Bundesliga discount. He lead a troubled Barca to league and has 92 freaking Cl goals. Why is he so anonymous in the annals of football?

He is a great striker but dunno he isn’t very exciting to watch imo. He does all things extremely well however.

Felt he was more exciting to watch in his Dortmund days under Klopp like when he single-handedly demolished Real in the CL. He has become much more rote in his time at Bayern.

Yes but it is odd he gets like literally no recognition as an all time great. And when best strikers of all time are mentioned he rarely gets a mention. He is a much better passer than people give him credit for as a 9. It is just strange maybe because he doesn’t come from a football power nation or his game isn’t super eye catching.

The 5 goal sub performance to me where he scored a hatrick in 15 minutes is still the greatest individual match feat i have seen from any footballer

Put it this way. I’d take prime Luis Suarez over prime Lewandowski. Both were great. Suarez had the X factor though like Henry, whilst maybe not being as great a goalscorer as Robert

Starting to think he's overrated with the way Kane seems to be on track to casually break records there.

Yes but look at CL numbers, Messi and Ronaldo type. He did the business in Spain to and won league there for a team in total crisis

He has over 600 goals in competitive Matches that is already north of Zico and he might end up outscoring Pele.

Definitely one of the most complete strikers of our time. But he's spent most of his time on talented teams with talented coaches where everything was clicking.
When you look at his performances for Poland where he's asked to actually carry the team, more often than not he's been underwhelming.

He also doesn't really have a standout attribute which I guess makes him kind of boring in the eyes of casual viewers. He does everything well, but he's not a highlight reel machine like Messi.

Yes but it is hard to get chances for Poland when playing against usually stronger European sides. He hasn’t even had benefit of playing on a particularly strong Polish team. It is just crazy though the guy could finish up with 700 goals and really doesn’t seem to have a big legacy in game

He's won countless trophies though. I know he desperately wants that Ballon d'Or, but I'm afraid that ship has sailed.

You're right that he never really got the hype that other top players got. He probably stayed too long in Germany. Just look at Mbappe. World Cup winner and for some people he's the best player in the world, but he's never been close to winning a Ballon d'Or. The Bundesliga and the Ligue 1 just don't have that appeal.

I think we touched on factors that hamper him. He isn’t flashy, bad Polish team, and no competition in Bundesliga. I wish he did get that Ballon d’or. Of Messi’s 8 Ballon D’Ors one really should of been Lewandowski.

Spent too much of his time in the Bratwûrst league to get tons of recognition internationally.
German stars never get much recognition outside of their league when compared go England, Spain, and Italy. A touch of that is unfair but they just don’t spend as much top to bottom on players. So teams budget more for attackers in Bundesliga. How many expensive top defenders play in that league? They got some dodgy defenders in their bottom half teams

Nah, he's a great player and everyone knows he's a great player.

Underrated should be kept for players that are genuinely underrated, not someone as universally renowned as Lewa.

Good examples of underrated players, are players like...Ray Parlour for Arsenal, Gini Wijnaldum for Liverpool, Nicky Butt for United etc...players who played their part in elite teams but generally are overlooked.

Could use more examples, but think my point has been shown.

Wasn't a hat trick in 15 but five goals in nine minutes, it's a bit mad when you think about it.

Never liked him much but for sure he'll go down as one of the all time greats.
